Alstonia scholaris ( Saptaparni tree/ devil tree/ black board tree) is a perennial evergreen tree belongs to family apocynaceae,one of the graceful ornamental medicinal plants. This tree suffers the problem I.e., gall formation on a leaf. It is caused by leaf gall insect Pauropsylla tuberculata belonging to the order Hemiptera and is commonly known as jumping lice.
The galls are green, spherical in shape. The empty gall turns brown after the escape of the adult and gradually changes to brownish black and become hard and woody. The severe infested leaves crumble,collapse and exhibit major morphological deformities.
It lacks the pupal stage. The adult is winged and brown in colour.
