This kinda thing is the very essence of "Ignorance is a Bliss". There's a time that I picked a fresh cabbage that have a clear sign of it being eaten from inside out, found some larvae and a roach. My grandfather just take the cabbage, wash it and make some salad out of it for lunch. All he said is that nobody will buy it despite it's a fine cabbage, and its better to eat it ourselves. Is it disgusting? Yes. Is it fine to eat? Like everything else, just clean it properly and it's fine. There's a lot more... gross example but I'll refrain from telling that.
