The mighty Yorkshire tea, is the loose leaf better than the tea bag?

Its a difficult one for sure this but I always end back up on the bag, so good when you go back to it. I think the loose variety doesn't have as many blends in it and more of an afterthought really to keep the leaf only guys happy. I do believe they blend slightly different for different areas to account for water hardness so I stick to buying it from the supermarket rather than Amazon or a bargains store that probably send anything out. Having said that it probably doesn't make a difference!

Hi GavJ, Anders here. Like you I'll always go back to the bag. Two reasons, one it is just a little bit more rounded and two laziness. If the leaves were that much better, I would be tempted but they're not. I don't know nothing about different blends for different areas but again, as you say, would it make that much difference?

Angry tea leaves...?!! Run for the hills! Well, we finally have an answer to the age old question. Perhaps a cost analysis would be relevant in the final analysis. Just a thought. I have enjoyed Yorkshire Tea in bag form for many years, though may have had the loose leaf form back in my time living in England, but am not sure since, as a Yank, I was never allowed to "put the kettle on" and brew a pot of tea as it was assumed that I would just (probably) muck it up; so, I enjoyed many a lovely cuppa without knowing the brand and/or form. Nonetheless, an enjoyable video. Thanks for all your efforts on behalf of our tea/coffee community. Cheers!

A lot to unpack there, you're right a costing would have been relevant. £1.32 per 100g for 80 bags. £1.12 per 100g for 250g of leaves, which will make a minimum of 80 cups of tea. I'm a little disappointed that you weren't trusted to make a cuppa while in England, surely it makes sense to spread the knowledge. As ever thanks for the kind comments.

Quick revisit. Just made a loose and bag, same ratio water/tea. Im reaching for the bag every time, just nicer and sweeter really. Think it just shows even with fannings/dust if you start with quality teas then you get a quality product. The loose is a more one dimensional hit and the proof in the pudding is basically which one would you drink more of, the bag every time.

I must say we were disappointed the loose leaf didn't add anything, in fact it lost a bit over the mighty tea bag.

I lived with my mum for a while when i was in between homes, and one of the things i continued to do when i left was to drink Yorkshire tea. I was hooked. I think its because it has a good quality taste and its not overly expensive. I hear Typhoo Tea are going out of business. They have been around since forever. Why do you think this long lived iconic brand has failed. What a shame.

Completely right about Yorkshire tea, quality and not expensive. Typhoo are going out of business. We've reviewed their tea on this channel and it's really not good. That's probably the main reason. You can check out our reviews about Typhoo on the channel.

Hello guys, thx for your interesting videos I’m enjoying them actually ! Are the tea leaves minced or just normal loose leaves ?

Thank you. The leaves are ground down, it helps quicken the oxidation process allowing a quicker brew.
