Ok I don't know if my opinion is worth anything but I live in Växjö, Sweden and for the last years I have followed my hometown team closely. After watching almost every home and away game I can say that leafs may have found something. Last year Calle Rosen and Phillip Holm was THE defensively and offensively dynamo of the best regular season team in Sweden. With their speed and fast puck movement they were feared by the whole league. Calle in particular has one of the hardest shots in the SHL and often manages to get the shot through traffic. The only week side in their game is the physical side of the game but both have a fantastic feel for the game so they often don't need to resort to lay big hits. Borgman is also a great defenseman. He has good hands and can lay devastating hits that can be sometimes questionable. Great in the defensive zone and strong around the crease. All and all three offensively good defenseman that with great vision and feel for the game.

@oskarvalek67817 жыл бұрын
TheEpicProgram Well this year they faced good competition. 8 of 14 teams had both the depth, skill and goaltending to really make a push to be the Swedish champion of the year. The playoffs this year was a bloodbath. Andreas Borgman managed to tally 10 points in 16 playoff games where the majority were in key moments of the games. He is an another beast in the playoffs;) Calle suffered from a concussion in the last games of the regular season and didn't come back to form until the last playoff game for lakers. After the loss against Malmö he has played with the national team and is for now a kind of healthy scratch but trains with the NHL regulars that are with the national team today.

The way a team environment works is that you have a competitive environment to drive everyone to be better. Right now, its too easy for the young guys to gain spots on the roster. Signing these two guys says to Dermot and Nielsen for example...hey, you did good this year. Next years going to be harder to get ice time so you HAVE to get better to secure a job even after what you did this year. I love it! Great job management

Going 50/50 contracts during an offseason that features an expansion draft (and hopefully tons of player movement) means that the Leafs are gearing themselves up for quantity for quality kind of trades. Or they're gonna load up on 2018, 2019 draft picks. Or both.

I have to think that from KHL and SHL, defenders are better bet than forwards. And the reason is the bigger ice. On the bigger ice, forwards can by time by trying to evade defenders while their teammates get into a better position and they figure out what to do. And in that sense, a defender's job is harder ... chase a forward out into the wide ice and you leave a a lot of space. Now, take these guys, who have managed to be effective defencemen on the big ice and bring them to the smaller ice .... it must be like a gift to them in the defensive aspects of the game ... which are presumably their primary concern. When it comes to doing something good with the puck once they have it, they have the same problems as a forward moving to the small ice ... less space and thus less time, so they better have that part of their game dialed in. A little part of me wonders if this is basically Marincin's problem, that he cannot do the right things fast enough when he has the puck (because he is used to having more space and time) ... so he tends to do the wrong things instead.

Steve, I love your videos, but sometimes they are hard to listen to just due to sound quality, especially when you get loud and excited. May I humbly suggest investing in a nice USB microphone, or some sort of equalizer, to filter out the harsh frequencies (1k-4k). Keep up the great work!

A few thoughts. I think it fits with the idea of creating competition within the team for spots. I don't like creating high expectations for defensemen in Toronto. Once the fans get on a defenseman in that town, he's done. Yeah, you can say that about others too, but it seems worse for defensemen. Leave them alone. Forget about them for a while. And, we're still lacking the veteran defenseman everyone thinks we need. If we don't get one before October, then our playoff hopes revolve around some other team getting worse like Tampa Bay did last year.

Some players might stay in KHL or SHL just because there they are in top 6 forwards or top 4 defenseman. That gives them a lot of time on ice and change to improve their game, in top scoeing lines. When the option is that or the bottom 6 forward/ bottom 2 defenseman in NHL... You might want to give it a year or two to get your game to the level when you eventually come to NHL training camp, you just take the position you want ;) For example Artturi Lehkonen. SHL was the right move for him, instead of AHL...
@andrewj727 жыл бұрын

Steve Even tho Montreal and Toronto got money the tax rates are hurting them isn't like 52 % in Ontario and Quebec? In other words if you get 7 M $ in Toronto the player is gonna have less in percentage than what he would get in Florida (38% tax rates)
