As someone who actually worked on this game, I can tell you that the reason behind the tiles not being double-sided. It was actually a stretchgoal reward in the first campaign. Initially the tiles were double-sided to save cardboard, but with the massive amount of sales, economies of scale allowed us to print extra tiles without increasing the unit price. The perk of having a unique tile for each layout design is that every single tile is usable, while double-sided tiles mean that using one side removes your ability to use the other. The objective rooms have different art on the front and back, because you'll only ever have one objective room at a time. Having the art repeated on the back is just because we did print some double-sided tiles, so repeating the art on the back of the other tiles didn't cost anything extra, and hypothetically provides some insurance against wear-and-tear. As for what I worked on, art for the standees and cover art for the books and boxes, and several illustrations within! Thank you so much for your very flattering compliments on that! I really appreciate it!

The standees is genuinely one of the amazing parts of this game, the quality of the art and sheer number of them. I totally understand the double sided nature for the tiles, someone else explained the reasoning which totally makes sense. Thanks for giving us the awesome quality art and all the best on your next project.👍

I received my King's pledge a few weeks ago, unpacked and sorted everything, read the manual but I still haven't really started playing yet. First, because there's another game currently occupying my table (HEXplore It), and second because I am not sure I want to use the rules as written. The level of complexity is... high. I might switch to something like Forbidden Lands (but still use the quests in the book). The brillant parts are the AI for opponents, dungeon layout via cards, dungeon, settlement and travel events, and treasure cards. Definitely going to keep those.

Yeah, I can understand that. There is a section in the rule book about simplifying rules if I remember, taking away aspects for a more streamlined experience. You say about other games, that is the problem (not a bad one) with this hobby. There are so many great games and trying to play them all regularly is tough. I just don’t put pressure to blitz through a game, just play when I feel like it and if it takes a while so be it. For example, I have nearly finished ISS vanguard and have enjoyed jumping in periodically over the last year. I like to play non-campaign games too like marvel Champions a lot along with many other games. And I play tabletop miniature games too.

There is a breakdown of which parts are necessary reading as you start (it's actually not too bad!), as well as a list of rules/mechanics to ommit in order of how much they effect the game in the rulebook, I personally started the game ignoring all the rules listed and only using core mechanics, then adding them in slowly in order of least to most gameplay changing, the rulebook also directly encourages house rules if you do find something you dislike which is nice. HEXplore it is a great game too, I think you'll love what LoD offers if you've been enjoying that :)

@colonelsanders69 Yeah, I'm sure I'll love it when I find the right balance for me. I just wish the game was as simpler. Like 4 stats, no skills and doesn't need a flowchart for combat, spellcasting or alchemy. But again, I do love the dungeon generation and events, as well as the "AI" behind monsters.

Great video, very informative! Still watching as I write this, but I notice you mention the different sided tiles vs duplicated tiles sides. - First thing first, the printing on both sides offers more durability. If one side get scratched, use the other! - Why just duplicate? Well, if you search random tiles every room, and you suddenly look for a tile that has already been placed, but it is flipped on the other side? This becomes a problem! Also, then you don't have the durability described above as well! - What about those that got the different sides? They don't get used that much, often only one per level, so they don't "need" the extra durability, AND you can search for them without worrying about having already placed them ;) Are you going to do a playthrough? Would be fun! I always like people playing, even though I have the game from 1st Kickstarter. Interesting to see different takes on character creation, how the individual stories evolve and such! :)

A fantastic point. Didn’t think about this. Of course due to the random dungeon tile placement, double sided with different rooms would certainly not work.

Thanks for the overview. Could you comment on how the emerging narrative gameplay (which has a lot of randomness) can fit into the quest (which presumably is structured)? Is the Quest outline very basic - (i.e. go to this place, explore the dungeon and kill the Big Bad), so that when you apply the game mechanics the Quest ends when you reach a certain room number or size (e..g Big Bad will be in the 10th room you generate)? Just wondering whether the game allows for more structured overarching narrative such that a story with twists/consequences to actions could be generated, while still incorporating the emerging narrative of the gameplay....hope that makes sense. Also, do you have any experience of playing Dungeon Universalis and can you compare and contrast the two?

Hi, in terms of the fraction I have played, there has been an objective room that is shuffled into a position in the encounter deck (rooms and corridors), they have both been to defeat a big baddy, but I am sure that will change to more diverse objectives. There are a tonne of side quests you can pick up from settlements too which make it more interesting. But as you have said so far it is the emergent gameplay from the random elements that I really enjoy and bring about the stories. I have not played Dungeon Universales, so cannot comment on this.

Yeah don’t get me wrong, there is not a lot of role playing in this game, (although you could put that in), it is more a dungeon crawl with rpg elements, but I really like it.

Not everyone wants to play as a DM. Plus you can play this at 1-2 players, can't really play an RPG at that player count.

As people have said here this game doesn’t really have role play per-say, more of a dungeon crawl with rpg elements. But I have tried solo rpg games and haven’t liked them much, an rpg obviously shines with a dm and a party of players. This is where this game shines for me, having an ai system and being able to play a party of characters is so much fun, with the aspects of DnD. There are still loads of stories that come about from gameplay in this game, creating a narrative.
