Why do you insist on cutting away from your reactions during the cool bits? I just don't understand the point of zooming in on the video. We know what is in the vid, we want to see you!
@geek-out5 жыл бұрын
You want to see our faces? Ur like the Chinese govt! All kidding aside, perfect time to break out da FAQ! Because we get people asking us play the whole performance without breaking it up, we thought this handy FAQ will help shed light on why we edit our videos. WHY DO YOU EDIT YOUR VIDEOS BY PAUSING A PERFORMANCE? There are several reasons: 1. The primary reason: To avoid copyright issues. 2. People tend to find it difficult to listen to a performance and hear us talking at the same time. Thus we try to edit and separate our talking points from a performance. 3. It's a stylistic choice. We do a mix of reaction and commentary so we will add additional thoughts throughout a performance. REGARDING COPYRIGHT ISSUES This is a pretty complicated subject matter, but here's the breakdown. Most entertainment content whether a movie trailer, music video or live performance have some sort of copyright aspect associated with it. We don't own the content, some big company usually does, and we only react to it. Copyrighted content can generally be used for reactions, commentary reviews, and news.Thus adding more edits turns our videos improves our stance as an original work. Editing can take a lot of extra work, and yes, at times it can be disruptive to the performance. But because copyright laws for every country are different and copyright detection can be unclear, so we rather take the safer route and edit more often to avoid any issues. WHAT IS THE RISK WE FACE IF WE DON’T EDIT OUR VIDEOS? Depending on the copyright owner, they may claim ownership which could result in one of these possible outcomes: 1. They claim ownership of their copyrighted material in our video and thus most if not all ad revenue we generate on our video goes to them - For some reactors this could be as much as 50% to 100% of all the videos they create. 2. They block our video, which is pretty much equivalent of a video getting taken down - This happens much more often with live performances or broadcasts. 3. They give us a copyright strike, which not only blocks our video, it can lead to our channel getting banned for good. Yikes! WHY DO SOME OF YOUR VIDEOS HAVE MORE EDITS THAN OTHERS? Because there are certain types of videos that simply run into issues more often. As an example: Live performances / broadcasts - Copyright owners of live broadcasts are most aggressive about blocking our videos and even giving out copyright strikes without a warning. These tend to be the most risky type of videos to react to, and thus we tend to edit more often to avoid issues. Music videos - Music companies typically will us keep our video up, but they will claim all ad revenue. While that means we don't earn any money, this is still a lot safer than getting our video taken down or our channel banned. Live streaming of some sport event - Guarantee you that this is the fastest way to getting blocked and banned! Sporting events and PPV shows owners are ultra aggressive of takedowns when these shows are going on live. Which makes sense because that how they make money! We simply avoid do any reactions to these because it's just not worth it. BUT OTHER REACTORS DON'T EDIT THEIR VIDEOS AND THEIR VIDEOS DON'T GET TAKEN DOWN? Ultimately, these other reactors face a higher degree of risk of running into copyright issues and potentially getting their channel banned. The copyright detection system isn't perfect so it's possible that someone could have their video up for a long time without KZbin detecting it. It doesn't mean they will get away with it forever. Sooner or later KZbin’s system will get around to analyzing it. And the detection technology is only improving. BUT ISN’T A REACTION CONSIDERED FAIR USE? WHY DO YOU HAVE TO EDIT? Fair use is a US law designed to protect the rights of people who want to use the work of others for critique, education, news reporting and even such things as reactions. If you watch a news show, or even read a movie review where they take clips of a song or film, that’s an example of what we mean. While reactions like ours typically can fall under fair use, the reality is that if a company wanted to block our video to protect their copyrighted material they still can. And if we want to fight to get it unblocked, we can. But that’s a long and arduous process that just isn’t worth our time. So the safer thing to do is to make sure we add edits and commentary so that most companies don’t consider us simply copying their work. A FINAL NOTE There isn't no right way to avoid copyright issues because there are no clear laws, rules or policy about this that govern what should be done on a worldwide scope. Even KZbin admits these laws were never designed to handle the scale of new content creation that we are experiencing today. So yes, all this makes it frustrating to deal with. The laws are different per country, and the actions taken can be different per company. In addition, KZbin is secretive about their method for detection so different reactors try different things and some of the methods are quite frankly unproven. Just know that we try to edit videos to give you the best experience we think is possible while balancing what we think is the right thing to do to stay within the laws. Ultimately our reactions are still genuine, because that’s what we want to share!

@@geek-out Just so you know, you never have to worry about copyright stuff with Riot Games content: check out "the three exceptions" on this page - they explicitly allow ad revenue on their IP as long as there's no paywall for end users www.riotgames.com/en/legal

@@MrPopTarted I think I get it? So we film in a different way than most reactors. We can't easily pause and talk about things during a music vid because we record the video and audio separately on top of having the MV as a separate track. This allows us to have higher quality output. Thus when we do talk for an extended period during a MV, we create a pause effect, which can leave a visual gap, which is why sometimes you don't see our faces and only see the MV.

Another masterpiece by Riot Games, I've probably seen this like 50 times and I am still blown away by the production value. I have friends that study animation that believe this sets a new benchmark in modern cinematics.

I correct you about "companies who make most amazing cinematics". As far as i know - a lot of riot cinematics ( or maybe even most of them) made by Blur Studio. And they are in my opinion even better then blizzard. They also did effects for marvel movies like thor/avengers ( and again, maybe even all marvel movies). So i definitely recommend reacting to their work. Star Wars The Old Repablic cinematics/ warhammer 40k dawn of war / batman / the elder scrolls online, etc. And ofc more league of legends stuff :)
