But can too much practice be sometimes counterproductive? Maybe you can get too confident. For example studying a lot for school's tests made me sometimes overthink when i was writing down the answers in class; could there be negative effects in sim racing as well?

Yeah, I have been sim racing for a while and while the time you put in is important its also important how you use that time to understand where on the track and how you can gain lap time (e.g breaking earlier for a better exit at certain corners)
