Hey Coach, I'm the guy from the first few tiktoks. Cool video btw, I like the concept of adding more to some of the surface level videos we've made on tiktok with the time restrains on them! Overall agree with your thoughts on most of the concepts. Some might be higher level than I or others realize at times. Shutdown concept: I could have been more clear when saying "shutdowns are the most important thing in league". What I meant was that in the moment while shutdowns are present on the map, they are the single most important thing IMO. Hoped my video just served as a reminder to anyone that is unaware of the value of shutdowns in the game. Not to explain how to secure the shutdown either, but to keep it front of mind as a focus.

I hate the bronze to master challenges too. I learn practically nothint, as a silver player. There are so many muscle memory things and, instincts and small pieces of game knowledge that new players and low elo players just dont know. What time are all jungle camps respawn intervals, plant spawns, dragon buffs and what they do, which champs benefit from which dragon buffs the most, even champion kits and how they interact with your champion in the laning phase, how diff champs scale, what items do and why champs are building certain items and why they take their rune pages to compliment that. Champion mechanics, cooldowns etc. For once I would really love to see a guide where a mid-high elo player plays their matchup, explains exactly why they are doing what they are doing, how to execute it properly, while also explaining other key mechanics of the game itself as well as explain their lane opponents kit and how to play against it

The very first season I played ranks was S6 and back then I was terrible at the game. My only strength is being having better mechanics and being good in teamfights. On the other hand, I had to be the most dogshit laner you could ever find, I could not win a trade so save my life. When I wanted to climb for Gold, I came up with this strategy as Tristana: Play under tower and farm until pickaxe (I realised that I farmed better than the average silver if I didn't trade back and only focused on last hitting), instant base, get level 6 one shot my laner, then get fed and stall the game until 40+ min (YES MY MID GAME WAS ALSO DOGSHIT!), win game. And it worked went from Silver 5 to Gold 5 in 5 days at the very start of my holidays. I don't think you shouldn't try to find strategies but at the very least I believe you should try to understand your strength and weaknesses to have a base point to either improve or plan things out.

Some of these I found really funny despite not really liking tiktok as a whole. The one with just picking what you think looks cool was the exact thing I was told when I first began, however while I picked a champ i thought looked cool, being twisted fate, I was too stubborn to try someone new mainly because bad experiences made me not want to play. fast forward some years to another group that i started to play with after I decided I wanted to give the game another chance and honestly wanted to play it; I experimented more going from different champs and different lanes and ended up finding champs that i just love. Never cared if they were good in whatever case, if I have fun with them its all that mattered to me. Thanks for all the vids, these podcasts have been great to listen to!

In my experience going from someone who was in the cool "I hate league and it's shit but I must play" club, who is now in love with the game, people have that attitude because they're really really bad and don't respect the difficulty at all. Once you start playing to improve and do improve, it gets clearer and clearer how acutely games are decided based on the players decisions and skills, which is the holy grail for a strictly competitive game like League

Usually it ends up in me missing a camp or a 10-15 second delay in my clear while the enemy mid loses 1-2 waves or gets collapsed on. Also, once you get outside low elo, junglers know what champions are degenerate enough to invade you level 2.

I liked the correct setup one. I recently started using my headset again rather than speakers/desk mic (only in 3-blocks). I found that I more easily get in the zone, maybe it's the old "coloured room" theory, or that I'm putting on battle armour. Another thing about being concerned about misusing reviews, I think that people spend too long rather than just ending reviews at first mistake. It makes reviewing quicker & less daunting.

For the "Crazy hook tip" I'm heavily against the idea that it's a master+ only thing, especially with thresh making sure to fake your hooks is huge, acting like you are going to throw hook on enemy support and then flip and go on the adc catches enemies of guard almost every single time and it's super important for hitting early hooks sometimes

I have a genuine question, but what do you do if you can't find a favorite champion? I've played this game since season 2 and while I haven't tried every champion (I prefer mid lane and especially mages and I really dislike bruisers and tanks, it's just not my archetype whatsoever), there's also still no champion I'd say is something that appeals to me at such a fundamental level I'd begin to describe it as a favorite. There are champions I enjoy and think are fun, but none is a favorite. The reason I'm asking is because I do get bored trying to take the mastery to the next level. I may be motivated to improve initially, but it eventually wanes and I'm pretty sure lack of favoritism is a big problem. I don't know how normal it is to have or not have a favorite, but at least I like the idea of having one or finding one. I think that would create a lot of new energy for me when playing this game and play it through a new lens.
@DylD20 Жыл бұрын
My heart jumped when seeing this comment because I've been struggling with the same thing. I will most probably be sending a question similar to this to Nathan's mailbag soon if I can't seem to answer this problem. For me, it's more like I'm paralyzed to make the right choice. What if I invest x amount of games in a champ which I'm not totally in love with and start disliking it? But then there are no champions that I've fallen in love with.
@MrScythe88 Жыл бұрын
Have you ever looked at what it is about the champions that you like? For me, I like tanks champs that have strong aoe or cc. So I like singed, zac, and swain (I like vladimir too, but I'm bad with him)
@SiMeGamer Жыл бұрын
@@DylD20if you invest time into a champion it will be beneficial to you no matter what you do later. Many people start with one champ and drop it for another later down the line. The learnings you will get are usually applicable to other types of champs and the game as a whole. One way to find out is do 20 game sessions with various champions, trying to learn them as best you can, picking them even into bad matchups and comps. Just figuring out the strengths and weaknesses by force and seeing if it clicks. Another way is the objective oriented method which it to try and get Mastery 7 on everyone. It will force you to play well and understand a lot of stuff in order to perform well and it will get you out of your comfort zone. And if at the end you don't find one champ you absolutely love, well see if there is a small group you really like (so you can put that into ranked). Or just play whatever you want at that moment. Maybe the champ you love will release next and or maybe it will never release. League is not for everyone and climbing ranked is not for everyone. Good luck!
@Kamishi845 Жыл бұрын
@@MrScythe88 It depends on the champion as I like different things for different champions, but visual appeal is a big factor for sure, but playstyle is also important. A champion that generally visually appeal to me tend to be from Ionia, but not always; champions that appeal in terms of gameplay tend to have interesting execution that feel rewarding but I don't enjoy them to be too mechanically complex because I am not a very mechanical player. Thematically I enjoy Yone, though I think his base skin is quite bland, but execution is a big problem and the playstyle is not quite what I'm looking for. I weirdly enjoy Aphelios' playstyle a lot, as I feel it's less about execution per se and more about knowing combos, I think that's probably a big appeal to me, but he's an adc and I just don't enjoy adc as much as I do mages. So I can list a lot of things I may like about a champion, but there's just not a single one that really clicks. I've tried to main Ahri for years because she just ended up being the champion I had the most mastery with, but a) I feel she's not in the best meta spot right now and many of her mid lane matchups are just really frustrating to play into; 2) I like her visually and she has a bunch of really great skins but I feel her kit is just underwhelming and not quite what I'm looking for in a champion. So I don't know, honestly. I wish I could play a champion I like even if I am doing badly with it because it's just fun to play and it motivates me to learn more. I found that character in Star Rail recently, I use that character in every content because it's just so fun to play and looks great and feels rewarding, but I have never had that experience playing a champion in League and when I hear BBC talking about favorite champions, it actually makes me a bit sad to know I don't have one despite having played this game for over a decade.
@VioletSAAB Жыл бұрын
You need to find champions that you love the mechanics of. For me its been from the start champions that dash, use abilities constantly and autoattack and have a HIGH skill ceiling. Those being Yone, Yasuo, Irelia, Akali, Ahri, Nilah, Qiyana. Even before I realised this general similiarity between these champs I gravitated towards them. Also what really motivated me to learn the champs was seeing high elo players highlights, making me want to do similar outplays. Also the looks of the champion are important to me aswell, luckily all the champs I love mechanically look great. Even with base skins. So you saying you love mages, should look into what part of their gameplay or gameplan do you enjoy, skillshots, controlling team fights with cc, or opressive laning. Then pick champions that fit that. Or maybe its time to try different champ types.

For the shutdown clip around 15 minutes, I actually think the guy's advice would have been better had he flipped the perspective. If you have a large shutdown, it's on you to PROTECT IT. You don't want the enemy team to get the equivalent of a triple kill right? This helps you not only close out games when your team is also ahead, AS WELL AS making enemies fight for their lp when your team is behind. And this is more generally applicable than the idea of needing to send it for an enemy's shutdown.

Hey Curtis and Nathan, I'm curious if you think it is okay to finish a 3 block on a smurf account? Like if I lose 2 games on my main account in plat and then switch to my silver Smurf account to finish the block because I know the first two games were tilting for me and I'm worried I won't play well for the third game or do you think I should just finish out the block on my main account?
@bksher6463 Жыл бұрын
I'm not Curtis and Nathan, but I can assure you that by smurfing you will NEVER improve. What you will achive by smurfing? Improve your ego? Ruin game for other people? Show you dominance agains lower ranked players? It's ridiculous, it's like proving to yourself that you're smarter then an animal. So what should you do if you lose 2 games in a raw and get tilted? First thing first, you should never get tilted. The whole purpose of 3 block is to stay AS FOCUSED AS YOU CAN. It's okay to lose even all 3 games. What's important is to get something from every game. Even if you have trolls in your team, there still will be something to learn. So you should finish all 3 games with as clear mindset as possible. DON'T AUTOPILOT at any cost. But if for some reason you are REALLY tilted af, that you fill like you cannot play next game, you obviously shouldn't force yourself to play all 3 games. Just chill, play aram or do something else. 3 block is a RECOMMENDED way to play the game, not how you should force yourself no matter what. And never smurf, it will just ruin game for others, and you won't improve from those. Have a nice climb!
@JamesBaleLA Жыл бұрын
@@bksher6463 I play on my smurf account to either learn new champs/roles, duo with lower elo friends or still get enough games in when I know I'm tilted or in a bad headspace to perform on my main account. It has nothing to do with ego or dominating lower elo players, in fact I still lose pretty frequently even in a lower elo simply from making bad decisions cause when I'm playing on it I'm either playing suboptimal or learning something new. Its an account I hand leveled and only I have played on so it's not like i'm smurfing in Bronze 4 or deranking to keep it low MMR. Nathan used a 2-account strategy last season and there are plenty of legitimate reasons for having multiple accounts.

Just yesterday I was jungling aginst a Diana, went from red to Gromp, killed her for FB, stole gromp. Had prio mid and top so went and pushed her off Red, took that, pushed her off golems and took them then cleared my side and did Drake. Diana gets 3 camps to my 10. Her game should be over, and it is for the early game. But she already sucks early game and now my top is getting stomped and mid is losing, soon we are pushed back to base and Diana has free farm of the map ending higher level and higher cs than me. Basically my high risk invades which went about as good as possible did nothing but keep me away from helping my lanes.

I've only gone thru the first 3 clips so far, but they all seem "true" but just condensed down to a point that can be easily misunderstood. I think that's just the nature of TikTok, like Curtis was saying at the start, you can't communicate the nuance required. Some bronze players hears "I always int for shutdown" and they take that LITERALLY and just int over and over again into situations where they're never actually gonna get the shutdown.
