she is not demeaning women, she is lifting us up. She is saying that WE ARE SO SPECIAL! Our bodies are not bad at all! As Catholics, we believe that we are temples of the Holy Spirit and that we should dress that way. There are plenty of fashion choices that are cute and trendy, but still modest, meaning not giving a free show. We should dress for who we are and/or who we want to attract. If we want to be a boss, dress like one and men will respect you. If you want to dress like a sexy Santa, don't be surprised if a random guy hits on you or catcalls you. I'm not saying that you would deserve it, because nobody does, I'm just saying that we need to dress for the kind of attention that we want.
@kennethfok3 жыл бұрын
So true. We dress for who we want to attract. Modesty is so important so that when a guy is attracted to you, immediately you will know he’s not just after your body. How we dress is how our children will dress in the future. If you really want to show, there’s always the bedroom moments with your spouse where you both can see each other’s body freely.

Somebody mentioned modesty being "subjective." In keeping with the dress code set up by Pope Pius XI September 24, 1928, the Holy Father ordered the Sacred Congregation of Religious to issue a letter on Crusade Against Immodest Fashion & Church Standards, then mandated to the whole church on January 12, 1930 Acts Apostolicae Sedis vol. 22 pp. 26-28: 1) Clothing should cover rather than reveal the figure of the wearer 2) No transparent or tight fitting clothing 3) No sleeveless dresses, blouses, or shirts 4) Necklines two fingers' width below the pit of the throat 5) Hemlines below the knees

"By no means are women to be allowed to uncover and exhibit any part of their bodies, lest both fall the men by being incited to look, and the women by attracting to themselves the eyes of men." - Clement of Alexandria (A.D 195), 2.246 "First, then, blessed sisters, take heed that you do not admit to your use flashy and sluttish garbs and clothing." - Tertullian (A.D 160-220), 4.22 "Let a woman wear a plain and becoming dress, but softer than what is suitable for a man. Yet, it should not be immodest or entirely steeped in luxury. And let the garments be suited to age, person, figure, natures, and pursuits." - Clement of Alexandria (A.D 195), 2.285 "Those who glory in their looks - not in their hearts - dress to please others" - Clement of Alexandria (A.D 195), 2.273 "But if any necessity arises, commanding the presence of married women, let them be well clothed - without by raiment, within by modesty." - Clement of Alexandria (A.D. 195) Ante-Nicene Fathers vol.2 pg.252 "Paul proclaims in a loud and lofty voice, "But God forbid that I should glory, save in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, by whom the world is crucified unto me, and I unto the world [Galatians 6:14-18]”. And yet a virgin in the Church glories concerning her fleshly appearance and the beauty of her body! Paul adds, and says, "For they that are Christ's have crucified their flesh, with its faults and lusts." And she who professes to have renounced the lusts and vices of the flesh, is found in the midst of those very things which she has renounced! Virgin, you are taken, you are exposed, you boast one thing and do another. You sprinkle yourself with the stains of carnal concupiscence, although you are a candidate of purity and modesty." St. Cyprian (A.D. 250) Ante-Nicene Fathers vol.5 pg.431 "You call yourself wealthy and rich; but Paul meets your riches, and with his own voice prescribes for the moderating of your dress and ornament within a just limit. "Let women," said he, "adorn themselves with shamefacedness and sobriety, not with broidered hair, nor gold, nor pearls, nor costly array, but as becomes women professing chastity, with a good conversation. [1 Timothy 2:9-10] " Also Peter consents to these same precepts, and says, "Let there be in the woman not the outward adorning of array, or gold, or apparel, but the adorning of the heart. [1 Peter 3:3-4]" ... For the rest, if you dress your hair sumptuously, and walk so as to draw attention in public, and attract the eyes of youth upon you, and draw the sighs of young men after you, nourish the lust of concupiscence, and inflame the fuel of sighs, so that, although you yourself perish not, yet you cause others to perish, and offer yourself, as it were, a sword or poison to the spectators; you cannot be excused on the pretense that you are chaste and modest in mind. Your shameful dress and immodest ornament accuse you; nor can you be counted now among Christ's maidens and virgins, since you live in such a manner as to make yourselves objects of desire." St. Cyprian (A.D. 250) Ante-Nicene Fathers vol.5 pg.432

@TheWonderLiz8 жыл бұрын
Just saying, some women don't see it this way-They have an understanding of their personhood and their inherent dignity and they enjoy the fashion of today's world. Why? Because there's nothing wrong or squicky about the human body that needs to be considered shameful. Some women feel empowered by dressing more modestly, and others feel empowered by dressing alternatively. It's steeped in interpretation and where you are coming from as a person.
@luciadeloach99328 жыл бұрын
That's true... But when people know God truly, when women know Christ and understand that he calls us to holiness and to live virtuous and beautiful lives in love and honor of Him our Lord, they also understand that modesty is the best way of honoring the sacredness and value of our bodies, for both men and women. I'm not saying this in a rude way btw. Just coming from a peaceful and honestly grateful Christian perspective.
@TheWonderLiz8 жыл бұрын
+Lucia DeLoach I respect your opinion. However is it Christ who asks you to dress modestly? Or the people who represent him? I believe much opinion that is called religion is the creation of mankind, rather then divinity. Though I do see much divinity in the world- a good portion would be marred by propriety of others and their lives.
@augustlaurence8 жыл бұрын
+TheWonderLiz If you are truly interested in the topic, Pope St. John Paul II wrote extensively on the beauty of the human body and sex. If you're up for an intellectual challenge, his works Theology of the Body and Love and Responsibility are fantastic. If you prefer something a little easier to wrap your mind around (which I often do!), the books, Theology of the Body for Beginners and Men, Women, and the Mystery of Love, are essentially summaries in laymen's terms of the aforementioned works.

We can only improve ourselves C Bentler It is up to others to make themselves better. Please see this- When we blame other people for our own faults then we lack the grace to acknowledge that we can be better. If Child A sees Child B's toy and he covets it in his heart, we do not tell Child B to put away his toy. We tell Child A that in life, we have to understand that not all things are ours to have and control.

So she is liberated from the guilt of her sins and therefore not "defined" by them because of the "dignity" given us by God through her own conceived ideas..Hebrews 3:12-13 KJVS Take heed, brethren, lest there be in any of you an evil heart of unbelief, in departing from the living God. [13] But exhort one another daily, while it is called To day; lest any of you be hardened through the deceitfulness of sin. John 3:3-7 KJVS Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God. [4] Nicodemus saith unto him, How can a man be born when he is old? can he enter the second time into his mother's womb, and be born? [5] Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God. [6] That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit. [7] Marvel not that I said unto thee, Ye must be born again. Romans 8:1-4 KJVS There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit. [2] For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus hath made me free from the law of sin and death. [3] For what the law could not do, in that it was weak through the flesh, God sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh, and for sin, condemned sin in the flesh: [4] That the righteousness of the law might be fulfilled in us, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit. Romans 7:5-6 KJVS For when we were in the flesh, the motions of sins, which were by the law, did work in our members to bring forth fruit unto death. [6] But now we are delivered from the law, that being dead wherein we were held; that we should serve in newness of spirit, and not in the oldness of the letter.

But I think what she is trying to say in akward way by saying I am not sin... is that her identity is a child of God the Father. So who we are is a child of God and not any other label. Allll this labels are transitory. The only one that is and is to remain is a child of God.... and then the litany of the other ones having to do with that. What do you expect from the Novus Ordo sect? Certainly not modesty! "A woman shall not wear anything that pertains to a man [pants], nor shall a man put on a woman's garment; for whoever does these things is an abomination to the LORD your God." (Deut 22:5). St. Clement of Alexandria, Father of the Church, On Public Modesty: “But by no manner of means are women to be allotted to uncover and exhibit *any* part of their person, lest both fall -- the men by being excited to look, the women by drawing on themselves the eyes of the men. But always must we conduct ourselves as in the Lord’s presence… [Again] On no account must a woman be permitted to show a man *any* portion of her body naked, for fear lest both fall: the one by gazing eagerly, the other by delighting to attract those eager glances.” (The Paedagogus or The Instructor, Book II, Chapter II)

How did you manage to be a Catholic speaker and yet literally contradict what a pope and the Church has laid down. Where is our Church going? Please read a little bit about Pope Pius XI regarding dressing and if possible make some corrections. This sexual revolution nonsense must not be entertain and for God sake do not be disobedient to the Church fathers, you wanna listen to St chrystosom at some point. Ascension presents, please sort yourself out, you are a catholic outfit and not some kind of secular media outfit

Why can't we talk about both? And think about this ... If you go to an art show, would the artist mind that you're admiring and talking about his work? Quite the contrary, he would be flattered. Why would God mind us talking about his works of art?

You would rather makes a comment towards "people" on the internet. And yet that's fine. We can have friends and seek social interaction with people who aren't Jesus, yet that doesn't mean we love Him any less :)
