Love how you used the word “reverence”. If I would’ve been taught in that way, it would’ve been a game changer. Due to the way I was taught about modesty, I viewed my body as a bad thing and reverted to sexualizing myself and having anger against those who would tell me I need to “cover up for the boys”… If I ever am blessed with daughters one day, I will totally be using that word instead. Thank you for all you do! ❤️
@madams.59762 жыл бұрын
I really never thought too much about this topic. I guess because I always was taught to dress appropriately. I know that word is very relative, especially in todays culture. For me, it’s dressing classic or appropriately. I don’t even have to think about it. That doesn’t mean we have to wear a potato sacks or look frumpy or like a pilgrim. It doesn’t mean you can’t wear shorts or even a bathing suit when at the beach. It does mean you don’t wear shorts so short that your cheeks are exposed or your bathing suit was made of less fabric than a Kleenex tissue. Have respect for our body. That’s what my mom used say. We don’t have to see your body to tell you have a good figure. If you feel you have to show off your body, then maybe there is something else deeper going on. Your body is a precious gift. Anyway, that’s my take away.

The other side of this is absolutely crucial too, from our pov as men we have to start having our own version of modesty talks that encourage this sort of thing. If you claim to be a man of faith you have a duty to help make a world where no young girl should feel like she has to make herself an object to please you or gain some sort of attention from you. It's not enough to just be careful about not falling for lust or seeking women who dress in ways that encourage lust you have to find other ways of complimenting the women in your life, particularly the young women in a way that highlights their soul and who they are. If you want to say you're pretty or you've lost weight or something about their outfit talk about their face, their hair, the colour coordination. We need to seek out women who do dress modestly, not because they feel obligated to but because they feel confident in the father's love for them and don't need the sort of fleeting validation you get by dressing provocatively. When we see a young woman dressing like a harlet we shouldn't be like the pharisees, judging as if we were better than they because of unspiritul things, but we should be like our lord and weep for the person who, underneath it all is trapped within her own mind.

Immodest dressing can come off as very haughty and boastful like " look at me ". Modestly, on the other hand says, " there's more to me than what meets the eye. I am deeper than just my physical appearance." I helps people to see the inside, perhaps, before just the outside, especially with women since our bodies are more shapely, generally. Just a thought.

Ok, I'm with you sister (just over 5 minutes in), so I don't know if you get to this, but I would encourage you not to differentiate between the sacredness of a woman's body compared to a man's. I say that because, if the Holy Spirit is truly living inside any follower of Christ (man or woman), that makes that person's body a sacred temple of the Lord. Given that, it is no more appropriate or faithful for me as a man to dress and present myself (and the Lord in me) in a way that dishonors Him and my body anymore than it is for you or any other woman to do so. In Christ, Andrew

Reverence is a nice way to think of it especially for the guys who struggle with lust. Saw some guys in the comments who implied they cant help but stare if a woman is dressed immodestly. I think men also need to dress modestly. To be sure, this is not nearly as big an issue as it is with women because men’s clothing in general is different than women ‘s. But when I see a man in a public place (not the beach) walking around without a shirt or wearing very short shorts, I find it disturbing. Gym clothes should not be worn on the street by either men or women, but looking around, I see that my opinion is in the minority.

I think the first thing that got some warning bells ringing was the exclusion of rules, this same line of thinking was used at the beginning of the feminist movement. Next was a ‘new age’ one liner, ‘if it feels good,do it”. How one feels does not substantiate reality or morality. But, for some reference, if someone dresses (either directly or indirectly) to cause thoughts or feelings of desire and lust to make themselves feel wanted and desired, that’s called Scandalizing others. Btw, I would not allow my daughter to wear the shirt you are wearing, slightly to low for sure.

4:35 I would personally add the fact that the average female clothing that you can find in the market is pretty unmodest (in focused more on been sexy than anything else) and the average man clothing is really a lot more modest (men shirts cover all the chest and shorts go down to the knee). You can also look at fashion magazines and publicity in general, were women are more likely to be shown in a sexual way and the young girls are probably thinking that they should look like that too or that's the only way you can dress.

BOUNDARIES, DID YOU SAY BOUNDARIES, I LOVE BOUNDARIES!!! It is an important topic, both in reverence to the temple in us as the lord God's. I think today is a problem for men also. When you said something along the lines of, "The same God who created the universes, created you," I never thought about it like that. I'm a teenage girl who's going through a lot of self worth issues and I have been for about five years now, and it's gotten really bad recently. I think that's a line that I'll think of a lot more often. Hopefully I'll be able to make that reflect in the clothes I wear too. Almost every day for school, I'm worried that if I wear a certain something, I look like a w***e (figured I'd censor myself lol). It's a constant fear that I have, but hopefully in time, I won't worry about it. According to my dad, I dress very modestly, and I usually go clothes shopping with my mom, so I believe there's no way she would let me go out looking like what I fear I do. Now that I think about it, most of my clothes consist of baggy anime shirts and the few "crop tops" I have don't even go further up than my belly button lol. Sorry this came out like a full essay, these were just some thoughts I had. If anyone has any advice or anything to ad on to what Mrs. Lillian said, I'm all ears. Thanks to Ascension Presents too. "Only Leggings" for anything other than exactly working out in a designated exercise scenario is a big negative tell. Dresses always look great, exclusively feminine, incredible styles & combos to use. Neckline & plunge tops have plenty of play. Camisoles, scarves...etc. Can make an attractive outfit. At mass & church events be mindful of who you're dressing for, God! But you can always sport fashion & style. For gents, are tight pants really that bad? Most folks feel bad for guys in tight clothing. Men used to dress comfortably, roomy pants & shirts & it's coming back. Unbuttoned dress shirts accent, muscles & chest hair when not paired with crew t-shirts. Though testosterone, hair, muscle does denote virility & vitality. Though the same school of thought applies. Dress for God.

Christian modesty isn't about fashion. It's really not about clothing and accessories and it has nothing to do with men's perception of women or being covered or uncovered. It's got nothing to do with women's worth, either. Changes in clothing should be an expression of a Christian set of values that encompass everything we do. Values like simplicity, honesty, thinking of the other more than self, humility, frugality, should come through in everything any Christian does. Related to caring for the other, the amount of time 'beauty' and 'fashion' take up, which could be better spent on others or on prayer, goes against Christian values. Think of a Catholic sister. Those who choose not to wear the habit offer the best example ever of Christian modesty in dress. Not everyone is called to religious life. I get it. But the spirit (Spirit) sisters embody in their simple clothing is the ideal and a great example of what all women should be inspired towards. This video offers a far better way to present the topic than I've seen coming from a mainstream American source before and I'm so pleased. It's progress. I believe Christian women can take it a step further, though, by focusing on the bigger picture. Clothing can be a natural expression of inner growth led by the Spirit. That way, without any rules, we start *getting modesty in clothing as a side-effect of our more important spiritual work.
