+Alireza Kashani They both show a triplet because the triplet represents the 2 hydrogens on the CH2 that is between them, which they are both connected to. Those 2 hydrogens are the neighbours, so 2n+1 = 3 peaks, for both the left and right of the molecule. :)

Thank you! When looking at splitting patterns, you have to evaluate each group and its neighbors on its own. In the case of CH2, you look at the right neighbor, then ignore the right neighbor and look at the left neighbor. This is because once they are separate further out they have no impact on each other. Consider: If I have a neighbor on my right and left, they are each my neighbors and I am their neighbor, but they do not neighbor each other

It’s not just about even/odd but also about how many there are total. At the undergraduate level (this video) students are taught to look for H peaks in H-NMR
