I cannot say enough how much you have helped me for the math on the MCAT. As someone who got straight C's and D's in math in HS, when I got to the MCAT math I was for sure screwed. You are a saint. You make the MCAT math look like a genuine joke - easy points question if I just know which formulas to use and how to apply them. THANK YOU

This is helpful but misleading because this does not work for division it only works for multiplication. 1.5/20 is not the same as 15/2 so this trick does not work for division. It would be great if she could do a video explaining how
@Leah4sciMCAT2 жыл бұрын
You're correct. To solve something like this, you would need to do the same operation in the numerator as the denominator. Such as, 1.5/20 equals 15/200. How would you do it for percent composition questions? For example I was given 40.9% of carbon, 4.58% of H, 54.52% of Oxygen with molar mass of 264. It says to find empirical formula and molecular formula. I tried your trick with Carbon only. Instead of (.409 x 264)/ 12= 9 mol. I rounded .409 to .5. I moved the decimal to the left once = 5 and moved 264 to the left one decimal = 26.4, but rounded it down to 26. I divided it all by 10 because i rounded the 12 in the denominator down. But the final number is no where close to 9 ( if used by calculator), it comes to around 11. Wouldn't this throw my whole formula off? I'm probably rounding it the wrong but if you could guide be that would be great!
@Leah4sciMCAT8 жыл бұрын

I thought that order of operations with multiplication and division goes from left to right?
@Leah4sciMCAT3 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the question! That’s correct. When it comes to the order of operations, multiplication and division hold equal weight. In complex problems, you do whichever comes first in a left to right order. However, if no other operation is present in the calculation, you can really multiply or divide in any order and STILL get the same answer.

@pinkpurpleroses35347 жыл бұрын
psalms grant You round 0.866 to 0.9 and then multiply by 0.2 to get 0.18, since we rounded 0.866 up to get our answer, our answer should be less than 0.18 Refer to her first video

For the MCAT, close enough is good enough. 0.866 rounds to 0.9, then apply the decimal trick. 0.9 x 0.2 is 9 x 2 = 18 with the decimal going back twice for 0.18
