I just got my first long arm, a Grace Qnique 16X. This model is supposed to have an improved bobbin system but I could not get my bobbin to load until someone referred me to this video. Passing the thread tail underneath the thread (minute 1:37) is what did the trick for me. Thank you so much for this and all of your other videos!

So glad I found this video. You saved the day again, it was really getting frustrating when the winder wouldn't catch the thread.

Great tip on "locking" the thread around the bobbin before winding it. I'm going to wind mine that way now. Thanks!

I have a 15R. Do you have a video on the different stitch regulations? Cruse or manual etc. I’m afraid to leave regulated as a new lonarmer.

Great video! So helpful that you showed how to lock the thread on the spool but how does this work when you’re quilting and come to the end of the thread on the spool? Since it’s been locked on, the thread can’t come all the way off the bobbin, right?
@LeahDay
@LeahDay 2 жыл бұрын
Nope, I've never had an issue with it. Because the end is locked behind loops above, it will unspool in order, meaning the tail will be the last thing to come off the bobbin.

@@LeahDay thank you for the reply! I will need to watch your video again because my bobbin did not unwind all the way and got stuck, but I’m sure I did something wrong - especially since you’ve never had an issue. I’m just so happy I found this video because I’ve had SO much frustration with the thread not catching on the bobbin when using the winder!!! Thank you for doing these videos! You explain everything so clearly and with so detail! I’ve had a Qnique 17R for about 5 years but still find so much information that I didn’t know from your videos!

Hi. Another way that I’ve used, is to wrap the thread clockwise a few times, then, on your third or fourth wrap, extend the thread around the winder as well. Continuing that clockwise motion will pull the spinner into place. As it begins to spin, the thread tail will pull from your fingers and wind away !!

Thank you for sharing Jack. That doesn't result in the end of the bobbin gagging as it empties?

I have a Qnique 19 machine. The bobbin winder is like the 21 that you showed. But when I wound my bobbin, it was not nice and straight like yours, it had slightly more thread at the bottom than at the top which made the winder stop. I tried nudging the thread while it was winding to make it go to the top too but then it stops before it is full wound. The tension on the wound bobbin is good...it just doesn't fill the all the way, evenly, top to bottom. What am I doing wrong?

Check your manual - there is an adjustment you can do to the guides before the bobbin winder to get it to wind more evenly. I also run the thread through my fingers and if I notice the bobbin is getting top or bottom heavy, I just nudge it up myself so it's evenly wound.

@@LeahDay Thanks. Somehow, I missed seeing that part of the manual! This would be the adjustment to the bobbin cam I guess. I see how the adjustment to the bobbin cam would affect the amount of fill. I guess one still has to use the old fashioned finger nudge for the evenness! Appreciate your quick response!

Thank-you Leah!! Love the tip on how to keep the thread from going loose!! I have the 21" qnique as well and would love to see a tutorial on using invisible monopoly thread, I've quilted 3 quilts with the invisible thread and now having trouble picking up the bobbin thread...thanks!!
@LeahDay
@LeahDay 5 жыл бұрын
Yay! I'm so happy to hear you found this helpful. On the invisible thread, I'm sorry, but I truly dislike that stuff so I'm not sure why it would be having issues.... unless... have you brushed out your machine, oiled it, or changed the needle over those 3 quilts? If not, that's probably the problem!

Try using cotton thread in the bobbin. It worked on my domestic best that way it may work with the long arm too.
