Good review between 4:00 till 6:00 about the rather silly app, what it measures, why, and not. I wish there was a more useful DESKTOP interface for it, to analyze the peculiar leak alerts (false alarms) that now leaks into the everyday life.

Super review! I’ll be purchasing one. I’m terrified of leaks. Not so much for the damage water can do, but as protection against high bills. (Portugal has the worlds most expensive water, I’ve had bills of €660 a month 😳)

What if you think you already have one?

Hé failed to explain but the supported Leakbot supplied by your insurance company includes a free plumbing service who will trace the leak and repair it free of charge. This is an historic review and the product and service together with the app and software have greatly evolved. Meanwhile they are set to be rolling out 100s of 1000s to US insurers where water leaks cost the industry billions per annum Ondo Insurtech are the company behind the tech.

That wasnt offered when I reviewed the product.

I have one supplied by my insurance company, had an alert but as it was obvious that there was no leak I ignored it. I was reminded several times that I should contact them so that they could send a plumber to investigate the leak. I even got a call fro LeakBot and was asked why I had not reported the leak. I asked the caller how they system worked and how it could tell the difference between a leak and the hose being turned on. He could not tell me and I said it’s a way of generating work for your plumbers that the insurance company will pay for. As stated if a plumber turns up where do they start if there is no obvious sign? The caller told me he would send me further details on the system. Never did. I think it’s a clever scam, bit like the story of the kings new suit!

I'm guessing that LeakBot has access to the info through the app. Wonder if the insurance company has the same access and will be monitoring things like absentee owner, NO water use, which might jeopardise coverage??? BIG BROTHER

Fab vid but dubious (too slow etc) product methinks. Thanks Arlo,

Seb, you have to remember that most leaks are apparently small, slow leaks which cause damage over a long period (weeks/months). According to how this works, it should pick up a leak of that sort within days if not hours. And as far as a big leak goes, it has to differentiate between normal tap use and a leak. So even if it takes 30 minutes while you are away on holiday, that's a hell of a sight better than coming home to find its been gushing all week. I'm sold on the idea, and it looks like some of the big insurers are too.

What if you have multi incoming pipes bringing water into your property. Also if your going away why not turn off the main stopcock. Your a hundred miles from home it’s middle of the night & the alarm goes off, 🙃 this has not been thought out.

I don't know anyone who switches off their stopcock when they go away for the weekend, or even a holiday. And actually, I don't know anyone with more than one water pipe into the property. But I would have thought the best thing is to leave a key with a neighbour, and ring them if the alarm goes off. If it happens in the middle of the night, and you don't want to wake the neighbour, still better than a pipe leaking for days.
