Great Video! I've had leaking Fuel Pressure Regulators in my cars before. To test them, I've connected a vacuum pump to see if it held vacuum. They're the kind where they have a vacuum line that connects. Of course, another way to test it would be to smell the vacuum line for raw gasoline. But, I had never seen one without the vacuum line. Thank you for the great information.

Just giving some friendly advise here, to some people that may be looking at this video, because their jimmy is not starting or is stalling, and they suspect that this spider/fuel pressure regulator might be the problem. I was working on a 95 gmc jimmy 4.3 vortec, she started hesitating every once in a while and eventually would not start. After replacing fuel pump, 2 sensors, spark plugs eventually found the real problem. Turned out to be the electrical plug going to the fuel pressure regulator/ fuel injector. Somehow it got real dirty. Cleaned the connections real good, plugged it back and she fired right up. And she has been running good for some time now.

@sweetlikeADAM If you are that worried about grease, you can use a light oil, but I'm not aware of any place that it is *not* a good idea to apply a little silicon grease on an o-ring. It helps the o-ring seat without binding or rolling off. I ruined many o-rings over the years before I found this little tid bit.

Ok so in order to change the regulator, the intake must come off upper. Usually when the regulator fails it starts leaking into the cylinders causing a misfire or bad idle which burns rich. But then it'd be a good time to check your spider injector on your poppets

Another great video! I love the klaxon. Wouldn't it be great if a Klaxon went off when the FPR started leaking and maybe General Quarters when the "nut kit" starts leaking! LOL Dont' forget to view the CPFI Internal Leak video too. It illustrates the "nut kit" leak. Sadly, you rarely receive even a code for either but you can smell the gas fumes and loss of power.

I have 96 jimmy with vortec and about 270 k I have owned it for about 6 months. It runs rough at idle only so far I haven't done much but replace some cracked vacuum lines that go to canister mounted on hood, I have started to research where I should go with this by watching some videos. So far I believe a good starting point is to inspect and clean the IAC and the throttle body and inspect inside intake for any fuel leaks from spider or regulator. If there is any indication of any leaks I appears I would certainly have to remove intake further to ascertain what is leaking as in spider lines, poppets or regulator. Do you think I am on the right track? anything else I should be doing? thanks

Would you get a lean condition if it was leaking out through the return, Causing a misfire?
@realfixesrealfast3 жыл бұрын
not sure exactly where your leak is but I think if it is raw fuel leaking I would expect to see a rich condition that would reduce the injector pulse width, and drive thew STFT negative.

@realfixesrealfast3 жыл бұрын
Hi Ray, I know it would be great if it were that easy but there are just too many things that could cause those symptoms. What is needed is to evaluate both the freeze frame and live data . Anything other than that would really be a blind attempt to find the problem. Let a good diagnostic shop take a look at the data..
@down4mah212 жыл бұрын
so i took my car to midas today and they told me that my fuel pressure regulator was building up or soaked. i'm guessing that it's just from the car being 7 years old without it being replaced and hoping it isnt a fuel line leak like you showed that way i don't have to take the engine apeart to find it. the car shakes real bad when i put it in reverse or drive and has a strong odor of gasoline. would replacing the regulator fix these problems assuming that is the regulator?

@thewatcher6118 жыл бұрын

@sweetlikeADAM Dude seriously?? You don't know what a 4.3 is?? The infamous chevy 4.3 V6. This engine is in S10 Pickups, S10 Blazers, Fullsize pickups, Oldsmobile bravada, he even says in the video oldsmobile. that means GM. And you are worried about a minute amount of grease on an Oring?? How does grease corrode anything?? It does the opposite. I am speaking from over 18 years experience as an auto tech. L1 advanced and ASE Master Tech. Step into the real world for a moment.

@@realfixesrealfast Thanks for the quick reply. Nice videos. For a 2000 GMC V6, 4.3 L, do you know the typical reliable life of the fuel pressure regulator ? And do you know the typical reliable life of the fuel injector / poppits ? Would it be wise to fuel injector / poppits assembly after 200k miles ?
@realfixesrealfast4 жыл бұрын
@@kekfreedomheritage5633 There is not an exact answer to that question. If a part id broken you replace it. If it simply worn experience would expect that 200K miles is a significant amount of wear and tear on those parts and it would most likely be in your best interest to replace them with new and it would definitely improve your performance.

@Chevyboi1488 4.3 a boat anchor? Your 350 is a much better engine? Yes I would take a 350 over a 4.3 , but that does not make a 4.3 a bad motor? A 4.3 is a 5.7 minus two cylinders. You will find the same intake setup on a 5.7 from the same year models. The starters are the same. pistons , rods , bearings , pushrods , rocker arms , water pump , they are all the same! 350 gets better gas mileage? Not according to EPA ratings! I would need to see some scientific proof!
