HI OTHER VIEWERS! 💙✨️🦋 Something we can do in appreciation of Leena, that is free and takes no time at all, is ask our local libraries to get her new book in digital and physical copies. Bravo and Congrats Leena! 👏

The best thing I've watched this year, honestly, is you. I came for the sewing/knitting content, stayed for the forest rants (more please!). Next year, I'll be joining your patreon. Thank you to those who supported Leena this year. I can't wait for half-arse human autobook to be available at my library so I listen while I work in the lab! Happy new year!

Whilst I don't agree with ad blockers, adverts have become so frequent and intrusive they can make videos almost impossible to watch, so if someone isn't in the finacial position of KZbin premuim or patreon, I can understand why they might use one
@ellia_fabia2 күн бұрын
I agree. It‘s not one ad before and after a video anymore, it‘s 5 ads at the beginning, 3 in the middle and another 3 at the end. It‘s awful. I followed Leena‘s recommendation and canceld Spotify and got KZbin Premium including Music and I‘ll never go back. So, to everyone who can afford it: make the transition, it‘s worth it!
@MorganK4Күн бұрын
To me it's way more about what the ads actually are than the frequency. I get ads on my phone and if it's not a dodgy temu ad that is pretending not to be a temu ad, it's the same three weightloss ads. If I could somehow tell youtube not to give me specific types of ads, I'd be a lot more willing to forgo ad block.

Love you dearly, Leena! Loved your video review! Some feedback you didn’t ask for - I noticed this year that your video titles were generally vague and confusing, and often not actually what your videos were about. Your best viewed videos had titles that worked for the video. This year, I found myself less inclined to click your videos because I wasn’t sure I wanted to commit to 25 minutes of something whose topic was unknown. I’m just wondering if clearer titles might be helpful. I would certainly appreciate them! Thanks for all you do to create interesting and important content! Happy New Year!

this is both my worst year in my life (so many life-threatening health issues, mine and of my family, pets, etc) and most productive year (i wrote about 200K words, almost finished the second draft of my novel, even made a game and countless art). i just have no idea how to feel about it. it was such a whirlwind...

I'm low-key writing a novel, but had to put it on the backburner because from September until the ass-crack of Chrsitmas I was crocheting a 150x200cm rainbow blanket for my son. It took four months of consistant/nighly crocheting, so I feel you. Worth it though. 😊

Leena - Greetings from Canada. I just opened a package I picked up today from the post office and found your book! I'm so happy it's arrived, despite the Canada Post's dysfunctional agreement negotiations (often mis-characterized as a strike. Your year-of-make-do inspired me to join! It worked really well (I got the exception of woollen socks and I might have splurged a bit there, but all in all it went well)! I've tackled major wardrobe additions but hand-sewing helped me to not go overboard. Next year I'm going to do a low-buy year - and it all started with your year-of-make-do! All the best for 2025 from Germany ❤

I can't believe I read more than Leena Norms this year! This year has been interesting. Lots of personal and emotional growth. We went to Colorado and Vienna to visit friends. Met so many new people and hung out with old friends. Went to many shows. My partner and I moved and have lovely neighbors now. We also took an ASL class together and a mushroom identifying class that has led us to identifying a bunch during hikes. I started taking aerial classes and progressed to intermediate levels. I finished my first full morris dancing season and feel very taken in by that community. We danced at the second largest Renaissance Festival in the US, which was super fun! Fixed a sewing machine, did a few hand stitching pieces and visible mending projects. Starting to learn to crotchet, too. My 5 Star Books This Year: Humankind: A Hopeful History - Rutger Bregman Invisible Women: Data Bias in a World Designed for Men - Caroline Criado Perez Ultra-Processed People - Chris Van Tulleken A Wizard’s Guide to Defensive Baking - T Kingfisher It’s Not Hysteria - Karen Tang Weyward - Emilia Hart The Hemlock Queen - Hannah Whitten The Midnight Library - Matt Haig

I've written 12 graphic novels, and they get edited 7 times average. It takes 10 months to actually draw and write and I do one a year, so this is every day, rain or shine, sick or not, two hours a day, at 4am because I'm too tired after my day job to work. But looking at them on the shelf, it's very pleasant, believe me. I also read a lot, about 300 books a year. Yeah, I know, I have no social life, and no TV! :D

My favorite book was a non-fiction called The Library Book. It's about the mystery of who started the grat LA library fire in the 80s, but more broadly it's about the role of libraries and librarians in supporting public services in the U.S! It made me cry multiple times, sometimes from a heartwarming story or from sadness or from laughter, but so so good. Hoping to read Half Arse Human next though!

Stories that stood out to me in 2024 are A Gentleman in Moscow by Amor Towles (the adapted series and the novel), A Psalm for the Wild Built by Becky Chambers, and Slow Horses series on Apple TV. Rereads this year were My Year of Rest and Relaxation by Ottessa Moshfegh and Pride and Prejudice. Music that I have listened to on repeat-- Billie Eilish's new album and Chappell Roan. I also listened to Astor Piazzolla's tango music and Chopin's nocturnes.

MOST UNDERATED FILM THIS YEAR...People who didn't like it are the Harlequin's of society. 🤭 They came for the Joker, not Arthur. 😔 It is worth watching the first Joker film for context and character development. My year has been... a lot, but I look forward to next year! I handed in my Master's Thesis this month and I'll be doing an internship in the first half of 2025 in order to graduate! Coincidentally, I also recently signed up to Letterboxd, because I've discovered how much I like watching movies and screaming my thoughts about them into the void, by keeping a movie diary in Notion. All Of Us Strangers was definitely a highlight for me, too. I read 55 books this year, a couple of which were manga, which is new for me, and I had a really good time. No absolute new favourites, though. Also: I listened to about 77,000 minutes of music this year, and my top 5 exclusively consisted of songs from TTPD, lol. I've been loving discovering new artists, though, and I intend to keep doing that next year! All in all, I feel like this year has been a time of self-development for me, of laying down the foundations for the years to come. I don't mind that, but it also feels a little bit empty now, looking back on the year.

Thank you everyone in the Gumption Club, I'm genuinely grateful to all of you! 🙇Even though it's Leena and Craig you mean to support, you make it possible that a whole lot of us can enjoy these videos. All I give is unskipped ads. And that ain't a lot. But here comes the recap à la me to divert attention from my failings: 📚 I started reading The Orenda last year and it's pretty damn good so far (I did offer it to my library and I'm still waiting for them to finish its transformation into a borrowable book, so that I can get my hands on it again). In the meantime I'm trying to digest the words of one genius of a woman who by the prime age of 25 managed to translate the Infinite Jest into Hungarian with his partner. No, I'm not reading their translation (I'm way too immature for that), I'm reading her own book which also requires the kind of brain power I barely possess. And yet I enjoy it. I don't know what's the point of mentioning this here honestly, since it's in Hungarian, but I guess this comment has become my diary entry for the year, so there's nothing any of use can do about this. Sorry. 🎬 As for movies, Oddity was the most memorable one for me from last year. But the most rewatched one was an oldie, Tarantino's Reservoir Dogs that I just got acquinted with this summer. 🎼 My most listened to artists were Chappell Roan (because of course), Orla Gartland and the SIAMÉS. ✨ If you read all of that, well damn. If you didn't, I don't blame you. Have a great year either way!

@thecoloryesСағат бұрын
Question about pacemaker - does it allow you to record your deleted words in some way, even if it's a premium feature? I have always counted my deleted words (I still have to make them after all!) and it's one of the few reasons I've stuck with my current word tracker site. But that site is starting to show its age and while I could start up a site that does everything I need, I'd rather just pay someone else to manage the hosting headaches. But tracking deleted words separately from "actually contributing to the goal" words is a pretty make-or-break feature for me. Otherwise I'd feel way less productive. But congrats on averaging almost 1k words per day, I can't even maintain half that!!

My favorite book I've read recently is Every Word Is a Bird We Teach to Sing by Daniel Tammet--a lovely little book of essays about language. I highly recommend if you haven't read it yet!

I just finished We Are Lady Parts and really enjoyed it. My Lady Jane is probably my favourite thing I've watched this year. I guess both of these series have a lot of heart and are campy and very feminist. There's a theme going here.

Best book I read was Babel: or The Necessity of Violence. I keep thinking about it.

I will keep recommending "Dors ton sommeil de brute" by Carole Martinez forever (it's in french, but maybe it's being translated? i guess keep an eye out!) as it was literal honey for my soul, this book has me making art and i think about it DAILY!! i would say it's a take on ecology and how we view the earth and other people, and how much does it take for people to start caring about the climate, and also humans being absolutely lovely amidst chaos!!

I think you would like The Wild Robot as a great nighttime film to knit to

I work in libraries and am putting in a request that we purchase a few copies of your book for our collection :)
