When heating the hydrant head for removal be sure and heat the top (female) threads of the hydrant. Not the galvanized pipe. You want the top part to expand as it heats... hence the ease of removal.

I wished you had made this video six years ago. I did a replacement kit on ours right after we had moved in and I was a little scared to break into outdoor plumbing world. It all worked out well but this series will help out a lot of people. 8 feet down is a long way down... props for using a shovel!!! Nice job!

I'm really enjoying this series so far, thank you, which is nicely edited with a good balance of action and explanation. I hope the fix once you've dug down proves to be an easy one. Oh, and not a cheapskate, just sensibly frugal with a good work ethic! :)

5 Foot frost line! Wow. Great video. It's not not really labor if you can take your time and enjoy what your doing. And saves $$ 👍🏻💪🏻

I could hear a hiss from mine so I installed a shut-off in the house. Glad I did because when I turned it on this year, water was squirting out everywhere. I went straight to the digging down because I forgot how deep it was though fortunately only about 3 ft here. I'm going to fix up the hydrant and bench test it then see if everything is good after the install before I fill in the hole. I wonder how long these rubber parts are actually supposed to last and whether they could be replaced with a better material.

It is super important to add a non-petroleum base lubricant such as silicone grease to the plunger.

Guess I'm a cheep skate too lol good to start with the cheapest and work up from there. If you need a new one save the old for parts 👍👊

Excellent video. Sorry to hear that you had to dig it out. My guess is the connection rusted out. Good luck with the rest of the repair. Looking forward to that video. Thanks for sharing.

I have a leak at the handle on mine and this was good motivation to stop ignoring it.

When you first started taking the head off you mentioned the importance of not twisting the pipe. The pipe on my leaking hydrant twists easily. Could you explain more thoroughly why that's a problem?

I wonder if it could be connected to 20 feet well?
@delenehuggins21133 жыл бұрын
I just had one repaired. Loose horse in barn and blanket vs hydrant! The connection is wet to the touch. Not leaking,,don't see drips. I dry it and later is feels damp. Is this a concern?
