PLEASE NOTE!!! GRUNDENS HAS REMOVED THE 20% DISCOUNT FOR WADERS AND BOOTS! I'm so sorry for this but they unexpectedly pulled all discounts on waders due to a mistake at Grundens. Bottom line is they removed the discount because the fly shops who sell them were unhappy that other people could discount them. I'm ok with this because we should all try to support our local fly shops! The discount code still works for other gear at Grundens.

Love your videos @whitedogtrailcompany - I appreciate the time and effort you put in to these. Just getting back into fly fishing after a long hiatus, and came upon this one. In the market now for a new pair of waders, so I was wondering how these are holding up after 6 months of use? Can you share anything with us yet?
@WhiteDogTrailCompany Жыл бұрын
So far so good! But to be honest, the 6 month timeframe is not enough to really evaluate their long term quality. This year has also been a tough year to get out on the water for me with several family medical issues. So I haven't used them as much as I had planned. I do really like them so far and they are definitely the nicest waders I have owned because I generally would not spend that much on waders. On the trips I've worn them I have stressed them considerably, walking through prickers, climbing over logs and through heavy brush. They are still in good shape and like new.

Year later, are your free waders any good?
@WhiteDogTrailCompany3 ай бұрын
I got them in March of 2023 and about a year a half later they're still in great shape and working well...and I put them through their paces for sure. If they are still doing well in March of 2025 they'll officially be the longest lasting waders I've had in many years... but we're not there yet lol.

As a semi retired water well driller, we have used grunden for over 30 years. I can see why you thought that they would be stiffer. That being said, tough and staying drier has always been my concern. I will have to try them out. I have patched my simms three times. They feel great but I bought them because of testimonials of 10-15 years use being normal. If I got 5 years out of a pair for what I paid for them, I would be fine. As far as the diamondback 6 wt, I will be checking that out. Until I get one, I will use my drifter 2 moonshine rod, then I will switch to the diamondback for euro and swing with the moonshine. Thanks for your info

The grudens waders are doing well so far. I haven't had them a year yet but I beat my waders up pretty good and they're holding up great so far. I probably won't buy Simms waders again... mine leaked in less than a year. Good plan on the euro rod and swinging rod too! The more I use the Diamondback the more I fall in love with it!!! Hit some steelhead hard this week and it was crazy how well it handles fish on light line!

Let us know long term - I say they work no better than any of the others - I have been thru several brands and none last long My best yet: Adams waders - I bought cans of clear plasti dip spray and sprayed them with multiple coats - inside and outside on ALL SEAMS and STICHING when they were new - overspray all seem edges too - I put thin strips of duct tape over the foot seams after I sprayed them (they will not slide in the boots otherwise - the spray makes them grippy) so that my foot slides into the boot easily (the duct tape also seems to help with wear and tear on the foot seams). I am on season two with them and no leaks so far. I am very tough on my waders and fish many days and move often in a stream or river.

Hopefully these waders stand up and live up to the claims. But the warranty sucks. I said this on Dan's channel as well. Warranties for waders that cost $900 (or even $400-500) are expensive. Period. And these expensive waders should come with a rock solid warranty that does not include a myriad of clauses and exceptions that serve only to dismiss all but the most obvious abuse claims by responsible fishermen. If I'm even considering selling out that kind of dough, my primary concern is the warranty. That speaks volumes and is indicative of how the manufacture feels about the true quality of their product. This is simply my own opinion based on many years of leaky waders and leaky warranties. I'm looking forward to your update a year or so from now.
@WhiteDogTrailCompany Жыл бұрын
You're 100% right on warranties. That's why I bought LL Bean for years... and then they did away with the warranty and their quality tanked. I'll never buy them again. At this point I don't think any of the waders I've used in recent year have had any real warranty which leaves us buying waders way too often. The Grundens warranty is more about defects than normal wear and tear. To my knowledge, that is inline with other manufacturers.

If it weren't the guy who taught me Double Uni's...I'd take a stern view of product placement, even fully disclosed. But couldn't agree more with your assessment: They last a season. Even the ones I get pro discounts with. Anticipating your follow up. And Grundens will get my credit card digits. Thank you.

I choose things like this very carefully. I have almost none of this kind of thing on my channel at all. Usually it is products I use and have used for a long time. But in this case they hit me right when my SIMMS waders started leaking after less than a year and I was done with the typical wader experience. Literally throwing my money away! They offered me a pair of waders to try and from everything I saw they were trying to bring a product to market that addressed the issues I had with other manufacturers. The real test will be how long they last... for now I like what I see but I'll let everyone know how they hold up! Oh... and I tied some double uni knots today as I was preparing for a steelhead trip at the end of this week! :)

If you must patch leaky waders, i have had very good luck with 3M 5200 marine sealant as a fix... i once had a neoprene set start leaking in the crotch... after i slathered that 3M on i kept that set of waders for another 2 full seasons of 50+ days of wading bone dry... had another set leak around the knees and it held up until i upgraded at the end of the year... i swear by the stuff lol

Nice... thanks! I'll try that the next leak I have. The Grundens are holding up well so far.

This is an ad, not a review
@WhiteDogTrailCompany Жыл бұрын
I didn't claim it was a review... yet... I don't think anyone can give a real review until the waders have been used for a year or 2 and like I said in the video, I'll keep everyone up to date on how they are doing in the long run. I feel like there are few quality products when it comes to waders and I was frustrated. I was about to buy yet another pair of waders because my SIMMS lasted LESS than a year when they offered to have my try the new Grundens waders. I figured lots of people were in the same shoes as me, the waders field tested really well and were getting good reviews and they offered my audience a discount. That made it was worth the effort. Was it an Ad? Meh... Was it a Review? Not yet.

Hi, what pisses me of is the advertising of Guide Waders etc.. As if anything that is made for anglers should be twice as expensive. I am 85 this year and have NEVER had any waders last more than a year before they start leaking at the seams or have the zips or pockets come apart. Why does my hunting gear come at half the price and last twice as long? I just take it for granted that I will be ripped off. I have found that the only answer to waders is that in warmer months I don’t wear them, I either wear quick drying trousers or long leggings and shorts, using gaiters to keep out the volcanic sand. The trouble in living in Anglers Eldorado is the huge sand flies and the ultra high UV light. Cheers mate. Harera
