Well he isn’t wrong to act on his suspicions and he’s somewhat justified, Primarch of the Ultramarines created the codex Astartes and the context surrounding that was making a guiding rule book and checks and balances for the Astartes chapters. People forget the Horus Heresy was an Astartes rebellion led by their primarchs because without the regulation the legions were too powerful so they needed to be broken up into chapters and they had to abide by the codex. Chaos corruption is extremely potent and sometimes it manifests slower than right away, this is a threat that should be excessively rooted out or else the Imperium will get engulfed in it. The whole space marine project in my view has been a failure, half of them are traitors and if you review each loyalist chapter half of those are practically renegades. It looks extreme what Leandros did but with the wider context of 40k you can never be too careful. He actually makes a great Chaplin in this regard lol.

If you go case by case with what’s left of the loyalists, half of those chapters are renegades. So yeah Space Marines need heavy excessive regulation and control to maintain what’s left of the “objectively good Astartes”. Yeah Leandros made a bad call but his suspicions are justified in his point of view, even the smallest corruption can ruin you. Chapters have been destroyed or declared Excommunicate Tratoris by the Inquisition for the exact allegation he made, it would required an agreement of the local conclave and in the case of a first founding and truly august chapter like the Ultramarines this would be one that would be extremely unlikely to be agreed especially as its a decision the High Lords would scrutinise, but the possibility existed (and isnt without president, the Wolves private war with Ordo Malleus for example), he put the entire chapter at risk and broke the codex by not following the correct protocol for reporting his suspicion.

I will forgive the devs of the first game for not being absolute mega nerds of 40k lore for having made that mistake. Also, it'd probably be easy for an Inquisitor to get aid from a few Templars if the conversation goes as follows: Inquisitor: "Some Blueberry is accused of Heresy, you want in on this?" Templars: "Would I ever!"
@omathitis84982 ай бұрын
Leandros should learn from a very wise man who once said, "If Satan drives out Satan, he is divided against himself. How then can his kingdom stand?" That would have saved Titus from torture and Leandros from the hatred of the WH40K community.
@Yamazakura002 ай бұрын
Throughout the comment section for hate for Leandros and after watching the ending for space marine 2. From what i see, he follows the guideline to the core that he would accuse his own superior for corruption (i dont see why he wouldnt, Titus was somehow immue to the warp, it does raises suspicion) though he could have reported it to the CM instead of the inquisition still there was potential risk.. Then SM2 ends with his reveal as the chaplain, in which i don't see him personally hating on Titus, he only mentioned that if he is indeed corrupted then he will do his duty as a chaplain. Sure it was a dirty move to report an innocent man for penance and all, but if you live in a universe with your friend potentially being a cultist/genestealer/or even a slight influence to the warp, that rings so many bells.

I genuinely hope that the next one is where we see Guilliman and Calgar talking about Titus being placed as the next in line Captain rank for the 2nd company since Cato is now a Victrix Captain but Guilliman still wants to know from Titus if he really was corrupted. They meet and he sees that Titus' brotherhood towards other marines is genuine and full of respect. Leandros notices Guilliman is watching Titus and decides to talk to Guilliman about his past in Gaia. Guilliman looks at Leandros and calls Titus to him. Titus arrives and Guilliman asks him if what happened to Gaia was true. Titus admits to his primarch but still stands firm that he is not a heretic and Leandros argues with him for that. Guilliman shuts them both up and basically gives Titus trials in the form of seemingly REALLY important missions that could let chaos win.

Tldr; my headcanon at this point is that Leandros was made a chaplain probably in a strategic move to get the inquisition out of the ultramarines affairs. Calgar isn't stupid enough to think killing Leandros would have no repercussions since he's (as far as the player is aware) the only known quantity in the second company in so far as the inquisition is concerned, so removing him would only cement in the inquisition's mind that the Ultramarines are tainted. ( I am aware that the inquisition is not a monolith, their methods and fanaticism vary wildly inquisitor to inquisitor, I only refer to the specific inquisitor as the inquisition because there are undoubtedly hundreds if not thousands of inquisitors/inquisitorial agents that would absolutely agree with this inquisitor's suspicion of the second company's corruption as a whole.) I like to think of Chaplains as the spiritual auditors of the company they're assigned. In that capacity Leandros is a perfect fit, but the issue of him nearly getting his entire company purged by the inquisition literally decimate the ultramarines which he would understand given that he probably writes codex compliant fan fics in his sleep, seemed a bit dubious. However if Leandros being secretly (at least secretly to anyone that isn't Calgar) regretful of his decision on Graia is what the story actually turns into it makes sense why he's behaving the way he is, despite all available evidence showing Titus is nothing if not a Paragon of the chapter and a true champion of humanity. The question of who audits the auditor shows up at this point which in Leandros' case could be the inquisition and could have been for the past 200 years. He clearly caught at least this inquisitor's attention so this inquisitor may have begun to interfere with second company affairs. With all this in mind if Calgar had turned him into a servitor or had him executed its likely that would cast further suspicion on not only the second company, but the ultramarines as a whole. I think thematically to brotherhood, which is the generic theme of all the bolter porn in 40k this is probably the best outcome to take the character arc full circle. Perhaps in space marine 3 Leandros' confesses this to Titus and recuses himself of his position in the second company, understanding the conflict of interest would place his beloved chapter at risk. Even with Guilliman returned the inquisition has a habit of doing what it wants and worrying about the consequences later. It's also an interesting route to take in that the consequences of Leandros' actions 200 years ago would essentially haunt him and Titus to the end of their service, if not the whole of the second company. It would be really lame if it was a dying confession so if they go the redemption route for Leandros it would be all the more poignant if he continued to see the ripples of his poor decision making.

A lot of people are hating on Leandros in Space Marine 2 (and he deserves a great deal of it.) But honestly, Leandros becoming a Chaplain kind of makes sense, sure we all want to punch his perfectly punchable face, but think about it, the guy IS still loyal, to a fault, and really hates heresy, Leandros was just inducted into the wrong chapter, he should have been a Black Templar. What I want in the next game for character development is for Leandros to admit he was wrong about Titus, that would be good.
