5 years ago I stumbled upon Mr. Formby's videos. What an amazing talent that man had! He died when I was 12 years old. Boy how I wish I had the opportunity to meet him in person. Thank God his videos have been passed on to us.

The adults in our household would sing a lot of songs, including this one, when I was toddler....in a village in India, believe it!! What a marvelous gift is KZbin? Mysterious voices and melodies which I sometimes thought I'd only imagined become real and come to life! 68 years old now, and searching KZbin for memories is my passion. Thank you, whoever you are!

marius478. I just got a Banjo Uke today too from an old (late) entertainer friend complete with a load of 1938 original George Formby songbooks and sheet music.(+ plus beginners book, LOL). learned 6 chords tonight. I live 11 miles from where George came from and was weaned on his films and music as a kid. Good luck with your playing ! Have fun. George Harrison was in the Blackpool Formby convention club too.

Another famous George also played the ukulele and was such an admirer of this man that he was President of the George Formby Preservation Society and that was George Harrison.

Cheers - I play bass guitar, but ultimately it's just another stringed instrument like the ukelele or even the piano, for that matter! It's all about music and the expression of talent in the end, almost irrespective of the instrument itself.

I can't say that I'm a big fan of George Formby - I'm more of a Jimi Hendrix man myself - but you have to admire Formby's undoubted talents and lasting influence. He really shouldn't be underestimated, much less derided and maligned by his critics. I say to them, learn to play the ukelele and THEN criticise if you must.

Probably my favourite performance of Lampost by George. Sad to think this was his last proper performance on television, bar an interview on his engagement to Pat Howson.

does anyone know a strumming pattern for this.
@resonator_959 жыл бұрын
Tom Mclean Just a simple up and down really. He would usually do a solo for this which would use his own techniques (split stroke, triples..) but he leaves it out for this performance.

It is George Formby in 1960. He died in March 61 age 56. Damn shame.

@Siriusfanatiker He has a Lancashire accent. He's from Wigan, but that was back when Lancashire was bigger. Wigan and Liverpool were part of Lancs when he was alive. It was broken into smaller parts in 1974 when Manchester and Merseyside became separate counties.

That's a Gibson UB-3, not a UB-4. The confusion comes in because a UB-3 can either be this 'big' model or a deluxe Baby Gibson. This is my all time favourite Formby clip.
