I cannot see how anyone could criticize this performance! It sounds absolutely flawless

Although she went for and nailed the high part in the last "There's a freedom in your arms"... It's not in stereo... geez. I guess I'll have to listen to the studio version over and over again. 😜

Well from a vocalist perspective, I wouldn't say "flawless" necessarily, but certainly a good performance. And great in all of the most important parts of the song like the transition between verse 2 and the chorus and the ending. I think she sand very well here, especially given than her mic and the acoustics there were suboptimal, which doesn't make much sense for a live, recorded performance on stage. The only thing that wasn't as great, was being a little excessive and repetitive with the vocal trills and fudging them just a little bit like in "I need *You*" x2 in the last chorus. Her belt in the last chorus, "There's a freedom in *Your Arms*," was phenomenal, and somewhat due to a lack of "perfection." With such a poor mic and acoustics in the room, that's an easy line to mess up by sounding lacking in emotion and power with a classic belting approach, or by sounding shrill or overbearing if you don't absolutely nail the pitch and volume. In this song as she sang it very similar to the original, with no vibrato and almost less of a belt, more of a yell. It's popular to critique singers for "yelling/screaming" when attempting to belt, but in some situations, like this, it's even more powerful. And you know when you're singing that part, or similar ones in other songs, if you're nailing it or if you're even missing the mark. And the next line being very similar, is almost impossible to do if you know you're missing the mark even a little bit. Great performance overall and the positives surely outweigh a few minor missteps.

@@cypruslavigne7419 yep I was just listening to her performance on Jay Leno in 2000 and that is slightly better. I think the acoustics maybe made it a bit difficult for her here. And maybe she had a cold, it’s a little more raspy.

@samgt500 What's great about these live LeAnn's your putting up Sam is their quality and rarity. There are others but not good enough to make comparisons with. I've considered the top end/bottom end thingy for some time. Now (0uch! just heard that bum note at 1.40) - with these uploads of yours we can clearly hear that change. What she can do now she couldn't do then and vice-a-versa. Sign of a truly outstanding artist. Consequently they need to write differently for her now (which they do)
@jezkn14 жыл бұрын
Blow - I'm the second view this time! Never mind. YOU DUN IT AGAIN SAM. Great song from her teen days. Unusually she doesn't quite hit the pitch does she at 1.40 (considerably out!). The problem is - although she's got far more depth in her voice now - she's lost that high brittle top end she had as a teen, which made these songs so outstanding then & she's struggling ... Dont misundertand me. Still a great job but listen to original and you'll know what I mean. Miss the 'du du du's' throughout.

@jezkn I think it depends what you view as her best years. Clearly her voice has deepened as she's got older, but that happens to everyone and is why Opera singers don't début until their late twenties. I can't help but notice that her voice seemed to go through quite a quick transition where it lost it's crispness and she lost her top notes. Maybe there's some damage there, Twisted Angel pushed her too far imo with higher and longer belted notes then ever before, then there's all the touring.
@jezkn13 жыл бұрын
