Thank you!! I really want to get my daughter an educational tablet specifically for children by a brand I know. But I got so confused by all the different ones by leapfrog and people would keep mentioning besides the pre-installed appgames you could get more, but didn't say if costed at all so much less tell how much but I had a feeling, it had to cost and cost way more than average tablet versions. So thank you for sharing that info!

Hello thanks for the video. I was wondering if you could share what the experience has been from a functionality and performance perspective. We have had our Leap Frog Tablet for under a year and it’s constantly glitching. For example freezing, turning on by itself, buttons or screen being unresponsive etc. I’m about ready to file a warranty claim. Any advice would be helpful. Thanks.

Ours was doing the same thing too, we stopped using it after a while because of it. Unfortunately it doesn't seem like LeapFrog planned on supporting this for very long, so I don't feel they bother fixing the software issues with it.

We tried another LeapFrog after this, one with cartridges and that too wasn't great. I believe it was also an Android-based system but we found the cards wouldn't load properly after a while, and the overall software was very buggy.

I got the epic for my 7yr old but there's no app centre what shall i do?

There should be an app control setting through the parental controls in order to access the basic LeapFrog store. We've had plenty of issues trying to purchase and download apps for this through there, it's really not an easy system.

Can you still do a lot while on offline mode? 9/10 we aren't near wifi. Trying to decide between this epic android based or the epic learning academy! Do you happen to know the difference? I want one that has more freedom for fun games and not strictly educational.

Great question. Almost all the use we got out of the epic was without wifi, it really only needs it if your kid has a friend with an Epic and wants to communicate or you want to update/install apps. There was a Dora the Explorer app we downloaded that had 3 ‘episode’ games and after a while the DRM failed on it since it hadn’t been on wifi for a while. We recently replaced the Epic with a LeapPad 3x and we find it has a similar experience both for learning apps and entertainment. It’s a little easier to manage with the cartridges rather than the Android-based App Store.

No monthly fee on this one, at least back when we filmed this.

I would like to see a more in depth review of actual apps. Is it still educational or video game-ish? I would like a product that is teaching not just entertaining. Is that this product?

I'd say it's a split between education and entertainment. The built-in apps do offer important learning tools like numbers, letters, spelling, colours, and word association, however there are some apps installed and offered through their Leap Store that are basically just videos that allow the kids to be entertained. Some of the frog videos they made are like that, along with some Dora the Explorer. We ended up replacing this with the LeapPad 3 which had more educational-oriented apps available as physical cartridges.

PRN_TestDrive does the Lapland 3, come with any apps preinstalled and more purchase options. But even if you can buy more they are going to be same price as on the epic right??

You can, yes. A standard 3.5mm headphone jack is located on the top near the power and volume buttons.

Definitely recommend it then, ours is 3 and a half now and she uses it all the time in the car. She's learning quite a bit from it.

There are approximately 16 games already installed from the start, I say approximately because 14 were on the Application Manager, and 2 weren't but located in the app drawer. I think it depends on what you want to be able to do with it. The Epic is stand alone, doesn't need any additional hardware, whereas from what I can see with the Platinum you can/need their proprietary Imagicards to unlock further features. Our daughter has been using the Epic for car trips for a year now, we've only bought one app ($20 for what would be considered a $5.99 game on iPad) and she enjoys it. I'm not sure how much learning she ends up getting from it, the built-in games are alright but nothing amazing. She repeats what she sees from the tablet, rather than learning from it. It's honestly more of an entertainment device than a learning device.

Pretty much is, it's a very limited version, but to be fair that was always the intention of Android, to make an open source OS that vendors can customize to their needs.

The backside is white, but there's a pink strip of plastic around the side of the tablet. I believe you can buy it in green as well.

Not sure about urine.. but regular android apps not really, we found this device was pretty limited to whatever LeapFrog would sell you through their own, rather expensive app store.

I just bought this for my 5yr old daughter and it's just games so far... like really lame Atari games. It's laggy. I was expecting so much more. I think I'm just gonna return this and go online and buy her reading rainbow 🌈 dvds. The games that actually teach them cost like 25 bucks each. So disappointed...

Our daugther has been using it for a good year now on a daily/near daily basis, whenever we go in the car she brings it. We've had some issues with the software recently, it doesn't seem like LeapFrog is updating the core operating system on this anymore and the apps tend to crash or lose DRM connection after a while. We definitely wouldn't purchase it again, but it does serve its purpose since we've owned it for a while now.

Unfortunately not from the App Centre built into the OS from LeapFrog. I do know some people have been able to 'root' it and get the Google Play Store on this, however it is not something we've done with ours as our daughter uses it daily.
