I'm learning Ukrainian with a good textbook (Beginner's Ukrainian), but there is no substitute for the instruction you give in this video! The introduction to the rules was helpful, but being able to actually *hear* how the words are spoken and learn the gender is priceless. So many great words - new to me - too! The pace was perfect because I had time to repeat and then write the word down.

You didn’t mention the translation of “повітря” or offer any insight into why it is neuter. It’s not a small animal.
@LearnUkrainianLanguage
@LearnUkrainianLanguage 2 ай бұрын
That's a smart question! Повітря - air, neuter genger. There are some exceptions to learn!

@@LearnUkrainianLanguage: I noticed that some short words ending with іч are feminine. Is there anything about air that suggests why it is grammatically feminine?
@LearnUkrainianLanguage
@LearnUkrainianLanguage 2 ай бұрын
@denverbraughler3948 I can think of it as an exception. As for example we know that double consonant plus -я is for the neuter genger but we have a word стаття and it's not neuter...it's FEMININE...I think of these words as exceptions

@@LearnUkrainianLanguage: But for *__я, there is a pattern within the exception. Perhaps there are other patterns.

This video would have been perfect if the Ukrainian words were spelt using the English alphabet, eg "Pruvit" and "Tak". As an English speaker I cannot understand the slavic alphabet that's being used to write those words which the lady is pronouncing in English.

I got your point...but find it quite unprofessional to present Ukrainian in such a way...you can see a word written in Ukrainian I repeat it for 2-3 times. It's enough to be able to read it on your own + you can spell the words in an English way yourself after you hear them...to learn a language one has to make an effort...Good luck with Ukrainian!!!

Im sorry if i offended you.. I didn't mean to. For adults it's not easy to learn another language.. So every bit of help will make things easier and motivate the student to learn.. That's just my feeling. Also it will boost your subscribers and encourage people like me to return to your channel. Just my thoughts.. no offence intended. Spasibo for helping foreigners to learn your wonderful language.. Slava Ukraini!!!

It's worth learning the alphabet. Iryna has already made a video on the alphabet.

Let me say that I have learned the Ukrainian alphabet, and it honestly makes understanding how words sound easier. I have seen videos from Ukrainians with Ukrainian words in the English alphabet, and it can be confusing sometimes. Some teachers use a "J" for the same "Yuh" sound that we know in English words beginning with Y, but in Ukrainian, you know exactly what sounds come from the letters...if that makes sense. I'm 59, and yes, it's harder to learn when you're older.

There is no substitute for learning the alphabet in order to read. Take an hour to learn the alphabet. Then watch the video. “Так” needs no transliteration. What should “pruvit” be in Cyrillic? I think you’ll end up having no idea how to read, spell, or speak Ukrainian. More than a few Ukrainian letters have no equivalent sound in English.
