Hello, Gill, it was a wonderful and lovely experience to see you again, and appreciate the effort that you make in trying to make sense of the English language and the implications, good for you, and thank you very much. Although the poet wanted to say more, but it was not very clearer and also, his accent was mor sor of a person from Norway, or from Germany, trying to speak English, with all my respect. thank you very much. Greetings, from Sendai Japan from a Mexican.

What an interesting conversation, I didn't feel the 50 minutes pass by...my english level is not so pro-efficient so I had to turn the subtitles on to understand Hugh's accent, still I enjoyed learning about Scotland, specially the kilt part, I didn't know it was an invention of Walter Scott in the 19th century. I came here to practice english and I am now more learned, beyond my expectations, thank you very much!

Hi Mrs Engvid, You video was excellent. Was a Wonderful idea to bring Mr Hugh McMillan he certainly have a lot of background and he can be Very handy for other clips. I agree with him that English in Scotland is speak a bit like in the olden days in England. It happened the same with the Spanish speak in South America and even the French Speak in some Romans Cantons of Switzerland. I think there is a bit of step up in all the places and the languages become update but we must not give up. I am fluent in 3 languages but I speak a 4th as well, all of them European languages. My daughter is a teacher of languages and she was born here in Scotland, I pass her my knowledge on to her and even she is young she doesn't agree with another referendum of independency. She say: we already had one. It would be for me Very sad if Scotland separate from the rest of the country. Part from my ancestors were from Durham, my grandpa William Yarrow Johnson and my grandpa Maxime Morgan, both Civil engineers. I lived already in West Lothian almost 28 years, I came from Geneva where I was living there 15 years and I have part of the family there and the other in the north coast of Perú. I would be Very glad if you continue teaching a bit history of Scotland , a little bit not too much as is Very interesting and as well a bit of poetry as you did today. Anyway the Clip was Very enjoyable, Many thanks!

Oh I got my wish yay! It was an awesome episode thanks so much Gill! Very interesting!😁👍⚘ Hi from a Swedish fan!🇸🇪 I loved Hugh Mcmillan! He seemed very knowledgeable about Scottish history and Scottish languages! Very intersting that the tartan cloth is a relatively new invention! I also loved that you two could talk about the political and historical situation in a very diplomatic way, even with some gentle ribbing. I guess it helps though that the wars were some 300 plus years ago and that the Scots are doing ok today. Would have been great to know just what the last poem was about. I sadly didn't understand it at all! Two things that also would have been nice (but that I know would take a lot of work), would have been 1.subtitles Hugh was a little hard to understand at times) and 2.bullet points on a board about the Scottish history and also the languages he was speaking about Scots, Gaelic and English sort of like you did with the poem. Hugh was telling so many interesting tings about history and languages that I wanted to learn them all! Great episode/lesson and great to see that you seem well! Would you maybe interview people with different English dialects please, maybe some welsh people. I don't know if maybe Irland and Nothern Ireland would be too sensitive a subject but that would be very intersting too! Sorry this comment became a whole novel! 😳😉

When you said "dialect" I knew there was gonna be a little "conflict", but you both resolved very well. Dialect or Language, there is a history behind, so respetable. It happens hers in Spain. But that shouldn't be a barrier, it shows the richness of a country. Thanks for the lesson.

Finally Gaelic! Thanks for this video. Gill your name has also Gaelic root. The same root as the old name of the people in Scotland (Cruits). They have not lost the sharpness of the pronunciation of the consonant. For you English Americans say you pronounce some voices “sharper”, and you for Scots claim it. "Mo Cro". Our Blood. Gaelic.
