Thanks for coaching in a detailed manner!! This question is related to Product Backlog refinement where you suggest the Scrum Master to work with PO if the Product Backlog is growing and get it prioritized. And then give the prioritized items to the team for grooming. My question is - What if the team has no velocity? and where they will account for this work?
@CareersTalk

if i understand your Question - all this "work" comes under sprint refinement, which is a plan activity of any sprint , please check the simulation session on sprint planning , you will get good understanding

@careersTalk I watched both videos on this I have a 4 queries. Please reply on pointwise only to get better understanding: 1. whole team is new in scrum how a scrum master can help them to understand what is story in point and how to give user point to a user story. 2. For eg fibonacci series goes on to N numbers. so there will be a developer give 55 some can give 34 and so on any no. what should be the last no. out of which developer need to estimate (hope you are getting my point) 3. let say if team able to figure out dependency, effort, complexity, size, time then its a 8pointer or 5 pointer ? Here we need to have some max. pointer (for eg 8 0r 21) ? 4. let say we have few product backlog how a new team should decide that this will be over reference story
@CareersTalk
@CareersTalk 2 жыл бұрын
1- (a)by sharing his/her practical knowledge on relative size estimation (b)there is something call- wall of reference 2- there is no last number it depends on team, what references they use. normally team wont go beyond 13 sp. we normally use Fibonacci Scale as it is exponential rather than linear, it helps teams to be more realistic when looking at larger, more complex tasks 3- please understand its not about SP number but the discussion/clarification which happens because of this( in this case team member should discuss why 8 or 21) 4- you can start with bucket system , again wall of reference is not static

What is the difference between a spike and 0 pointer story based on Sunand's points for 0 point story as the any effort other than development effort is tracked in spike?
@sn-je5yh
@sn-je5yh 4 ай бұрын
Instead of creating a story and giving a 0 pointer, I think you should include that story in the same story which will cover the scenario

Thanks for the detail explanation on the estimation and I really learnt a lot of things from this video, I have one question, If we are giving estimate in story points to the user story then how can we can we sure that the n number of story point will be cover in the 2 week sprint, with capacity of 220 hours because we are not using hours with our user story so how can we identify that number story points will be cover in the 1 sprint or like that?

Very informative session.Thank you for sharing. My question - we are giving estimations to the user stories in points like 1 2 3 5...and the efforts to the task in hrs. So while giving an estimation , do we need to convert estimations into efforts to come up in how many days we can complete the particular user story? Thanks in Advance

How do you implement planning poker when the team has functional roles like a designer, 1 front end developer and 1 backend developer, and 1QA. Will each of these people be able to estimate stories as a whole? Usually, they are aware of their own work and only perform their own roles. Have not seen them doing other person's work. Currently, each one will provide an estimate for his or her own work which I feel is not the right way. Please provide suggestions for improved estimations.

Hi sunand, who would estimate the product backlog items? Is it PO? Because sprint backlog items would be estimated by dev. But what about product backlog items?
@CareersTalk

PO estimate the business value and based on that only order the PB. Developers only estimate the PBI along with PO by various techniques like high level estimate ( Pessimistic, optimistic, most likely) at beginning of the project. Hope it help

I joined a new project and the team is assigning SP values in this way. They take Dev estimates separately (say 5) and QA estimates separately (say 3). Now, they assign the story with 8 SP value. Similarly with other stories too, and thus come up with good number of velocity every sprint. Does it seem fine? How can it be corrected without impacting the velocity? Sometimes this looks ok as Dev knows thinks from developer's perspective and QA thinks from testers perspective. Please share your views.
