Learn English Lab Hi teacher, as well as I am able to understand very well without subtitles, I can tell that sometimes I have been catching myself looking up the script when I'm uncertain about something. To top it off, I truly believe that it could be very helpful for the first beginners.

@@sudhirrajput36 Completely agree with you. Especially with Russian language, we have a different grammar, and sometimes I couldn't be able to understand every tense. We have to focus on situations and it helps so much, so a long time I didn't understand what's a difference I did between I've done. And from this moment when we notice why this structure there, we have a success. Also when we watch the movies, or something like this, we can catch this so fast.

There are so many subtleties in English which need to be carefully explained putting the context into perspective. I used to have a great confusion between present perfect and simple past.. It took me ages to get the difference.. This gentleman explained it perfectly.. Kudos!

Hello Ganesh! First of all I would like to give you a big "Thank you" for your great videos and the lessons u are doing on KZbin...they are very useful!!! But I just came over a little "task". I just have read a Sentence in an other lesson book and I answered it wrong... Paul......(drive) to Paris five times this year. As I thought of a kind of experience thing I answered the question with "has driven" but I was wrong. According to my book the right answer is "Paul drove to Paris five times this year. And the second one is: I.......(see) Tom and Jerry just a few minutes ago. As I thought of a recent action that is just finished I answered the question with "have seen" but again I was wrong again. According to the book the right answer is "I saw Tom and Jerry just a few minutes ago" So I quite a little bit confused. Maybe you can help me getting that knot out of my head. Thank you in advance!!!
@LearnEnglishLab
@LearnEnglishLab 6 жыл бұрын
1) The problem might be that your textbook lacks context. I would say "Paul drove..." if we're in December, and the year is almost over, so he won't be driving another time. But, at any other time of year, I would say "has driven" because the time period is unfinished. 2) When you have an exact time expression, you cannot use the present perfect (I mention this in the video). So, "I saw Tom and Jerry just a few minutes ago" is correct.

This lesson was excellent for reviewing English for the GACE. Also, I found it better than teacher prep material that I actually purchased to prepare for the GACE. In addition, this lesson as well as your lessons on conjunctions, adverbs, 50 Most Common Grammar Mistakes, and 8 Parts of Speech were awesome!!! These lessons were just what I needed for reviewing Standard English. Furthermore, your teaching methodology is very simplistic and thorough; it incorporates all aspects of learning. I even found your lessons helpful to improve my teaching techniques.

Thank you for magnanimously providing us with free content having easy to understand concepts! It’s because of you that I and the other people here in the comments and who had watched your video/s, love to learn more English. I hope that you help more people in the future. Wish you all the best good sir, health, life, career and other things that are important to you. One question though, I read a book before and saw these sentences “It had been an exception to the rule that I’d gotten to take a mulligan in this bizarre world.” What kind of verb tense is that supposed to be, teacher? I’m confused. When I looked up the notes I had copied from your lessons, I didn’t find anything that could answer my question. I can’t tell if it’s in the past perfect tense when the rule says that when it has the word “had” before it, it means it happened first. How about when there are two sentences that each have “had” before them? Which comes first? And is this grammatically correct? Thank you in advance teacher! P.S. I have a hard time sleeping when I my mind is full of unanswered questions. :(
@hykhdl
@hykhdl 2 жыл бұрын
im so late but i think its past perfect continuous because of the 'had been' and 'I'd=I had gotten'. As for which came first, its the subject getting another chance (mulligan) in the world since AFTER they got the chance was the exception made.
