Thank you for taking the time to go through this lesson. I am just learning to play and wanted to start with this song. I've looked at several others before coming to your video, and it's just what I needed: slowing it down, visuals, repetition and time to play along. Many blessings to you!

Good information. I have a Yamaha guitar similar to the one you have and been going through this string thing, searching for an easy to play with a warm sounding string. What brand and gauge are you using?
@TimGEdwardsMusic6 ай бұрын
Thanks for your comment! I use the Elixir Nanoweb strings light gauge 0.11-0.52. Attached is a link to Amazon. (Earns Commissions) amzn.to/3vqRWBa

It seems your strumming down with the pick on the strings but then strumming back up with the strings. Is this correct Or is it only down motions only ?
@TimGEdwardsMusic9 ай бұрын
That’s correct! I’m strumming all the strings on the down strum and just a few strings while strumming back up! Thanks for your question!! Tim
@ribman19542 жыл бұрын
Thanks, Tim. Very helpful and well done. One question from an older guitar newbie: most places I see the D major with same fret positions, but only strumming first 4 strings. I notice you include the open A string. I prefer your way. Any issue with the A there? Sounds OK to me. Thanks again!
@TimGEdwardsMusic2 жыл бұрын
Hey Gary, very good question!! Actually playing the open A string or 5th string OPEN is very much okay. I prefer it too because it provides a little more bass sound . And the “A” note is part of the D triad in making the chord anyway. The 6th string or “E” string definitely needs to be muted or not played. Again, thank you for asking this question and I’m glad you’re enjoying the lessons. Tim

Are you doing the down up strum pattens
@TimGEdwardsMusic2 жыл бұрын
Yes, I’m strumming the simple “down-up” pattern in 3/4 timing. This is one of my first video’s and I forgot to mention the strumming pattern. Most of my lessons I use the Down-Up strumming to keep it simple! Thank you for your questions! Tim
@godisthereason99032 жыл бұрын
Ok so when you do the first step strum for beginners you didn’t do the down up strumming
@TimGEdwardsMusic2 жыл бұрын
I’m sorry if I may not understand what you are asking! The first down strum should start on the first syllable of “A-ma-zing”…
@godisthereason99032 жыл бұрын
What are the other kinds of chords can you play on amazing grace on guitar
@TimGEdwardsMusic2 жыл бұрын
Thank you so much for asking these questions. In my playlist, I show three ways to play Amazing Grace. There is a version of “Amazing Grace” that includes additional chords of G; G7, C, Em, A7, D, D7. This same video also goes into a key change to A-major.
@godisthereason99032 жыл бұрын
Oh ok well you be able to go over the chords progressing that was not in the video on to another video because there might be another to go with the G. And D it’s kinda hard to go form C to G but is easy to go to G to D
@chrishughes9952 Жыл бұрын
How come the strum pattern is never mentioned?
@TimGEdwardsMusic Жыл бұрын
You’re right Chris, I’m sorry! Thanks for letting me know! I just use a simple “Down-Up, Down-Up…” pattern. I use this pattern for most songs in keeping it simple. Thanks for bringing this to my attention! Check out my other videos on how to play Amazing Grace too!
