I am going to learn this version. Mine was a little different, but I love the footwork in this set. I haven’t danced for 15 years and waiting for my new jig shoes to arrive. Thanks for posting.

Thank you SO much! I was planing on doing all the trads but we got pregnant and now we have a little one. If I get more time in the future I’ll for sure do them.

Thank you ... this video is wonderful. Unparalleled rhythm and great style. Lucky students. I have a misc question as an Irish dancer of almost 18 years now. Trad sets were always advertised to me as having the same choreography no matter where you went. Of course years later, I found out there are not only sometimes one but multiple versions of the choreography for every trad set. Why is this? The choreography in this video is like I have never seen for blackbird! I like it a lot. I'm wondering if this is a competition legal version of blackbird ? Cheers

Thank you SO much! Great question. There are quite a few different versions of each Trad Set. I think that St. Paddies is the only one that is the same world wide. The "normal" Blackbird seems to be the same until halfway through the set. And then Job, seems to have different sets. And then all the rest seem to have variations throughout the whole dance. This particular version of Blackbird was learned from "traditional Irish dancers" in Ireland. We do "Irish Step Dancing". So we have now incorporated this into our own repertoire. I teach in CLRG (Commission) and this version is allowed in competitions. I don't know about CRN or Chomhdhail.

So would all my students! Haha. I was pregnant this year and now have a 4 month old. Once I can dance again I will see if I can get time to create and edit more Trad Sets. :)

What does Grade Exam 6 mean…?
@MJPAcademyIrishDance Жыл бұрын
There are grade exams that students can take in Irish dance in CLRG. There are 12 grades and then a teachers exam. Many of my students take these exams so I label the dances they need for each exam with the grade level for convenience. Or for anyone else from other schools that might be taking their grades and looking for videos of the dances.

@@MJPAcademyIrishDanceoh okay. Yes I’m CLRG, but I’d stopped dancing in the very early 2000s and this wasn’t a thing back then. At the very least, it was very uncommon and I never heard about it. I’m also getting back into it after many years away so it’s interesting to see how things have changed.

Coming from an Irish girl who has been dancing all my life this is not the traditional version. Nothing in this version is in the original and most of the steps are way to modern.
@MJPAcademyIrishDance2 жыл бұрын
Hi, it all depends on what kind of Irish dancing you do. If you do Irish step dancing like we do, then this is not the Blackbird that was originally used onstage for step dancers. But this is the version that was created by Jerry Molyneaux and was passed down by the “traditional Irish dancers”. I learned this in Ireland when I was studying there at Limerick University from a traditional Irish dancer. I changed a few things by crossing them over d tightened the arms. But you would be surprised by the crazy moves they do!
