So this is a serious question not just rhetorical. Why is it that in every braiding video i watch the braiders are constantly adding small amounts of braiding hair as they're braiding? When did we stop just gathering enough braiding hair for the section and just braiding it down? I truly do want to know why this is. Like is this some kind of trend?

I had wondered the same thing! But I've learned that it's to make the braid longer. They also do this with knotless braids. I personally don't do this when I braid my hair. I just stick with one piece of braiding hair and it be enough.
