I really don't get Danish writing. Why write 'dig' when you say 'dei'? As the latter makes sense to me. Frisians know 'dei' as 'you'. And 'hej'... It's pronounced as 'hai' so why not write it as such? Or 'goddag'. 'Goddei' (good day) makes more sense. Also, the 'd' is not pronounced in 'god' (good) so why write it down? 'Godmorgen' literally transcribes in: 'gomo'en' so why not write it like that?
@monsDK Жыл бұрын
@@RudydeGroot in dig is a flat j,g sound and the same in goddag and in prober danish "if you learned long time ago" words are pronounced in full. newer Danish like many other linguistics that keep snapping words shorter, forgetting the real spoken words and meanings.

It relates to many European languages as well. For example, in English we do not pronounce the "b" in the word "debt" but we write it down. Other examples can be island (where "s" is unvoiced)/receipt (where "p" is unvoiced), aisle ("s" is not pronounced) and so on, but we still use them when spelling, right? It is not as easy as it looks like to rewrite the history of the whole language.

While "velbekomme" is actually a correct response to "tak", only elderly people will use it that way. Today most people will use "det var så lidt".

4:30 "Selv tak" is a third equally common way to say "You're welcome". "Velbekomme" is slightly oldfashioned. Use either "det var så lidt" or "selv tak".

The google translate for "velbekomme" is " bon appetite". So never use it?
@DamonMacready5 жыл бұрын
@@alandavis9558 Velkomme, as you point out, is also the term for "bon apetite". Like in several cases, a word or phrase can have different meanings depending on the context. And "velbekomme" also means "you're welcome".

@KZbin, can you add a button to play back to the last silent moment in the video...for learners? Will also be great to detect when the language was changed, so we can play back to the last phrase that is different than English (for videos that use English to explain another language).

I came to this video after learning Danish for 2 months all by myself and I'm not as confused with pronunciation because I'm already a little bit used to it but I'd say that this is definitely not a good lesson for someone who's trying to learn Danish from scratch because it's just a pile of sounds at this point. Although as a person whose first language has a complicated grammar and lots of confusing rules Danish feels like a pretty easy language to learn

2 different categories. You speak a romance language, Danish is a Germanic language. There are a few things that are similar to the French language like a few words. But it will mostly be a new language for you. If you know a good amount of English (Which I am assuming do) then you'll get a small headstart since there are many words that are the same in English or similar.
