Thanks! So Descript works best as a desktop app because it can download the video files locally which speeds things up. Thanks! Hmm I'm trying to understand better what you're trying to do. If you want to get really precise with where a video starts/stops, open the timeline view and drag the end of the clip to the exact moment you want. Let me know if that makes sense or you're talking about something else.

Yeah try it. It plays back a lower quality file if it’s having performance issues but still renders the full quality video when you export.

They should have had a feature that allows for replacement of text during a video timeline with AI. As soon as I add a text, it just shows a black screen. I mean we should be able to replace the audio with AI audio instead. I want to record a video in my voice, then edit the transcript and then replace with AI but that's not possible here. Hi, thanks for the great tutorial. When I record (and playback) in Descript, at 1080p or even 720p, the video is jumpy - vs when I try in eg Loom, it is smooth. Are there some settings in Descript I can use to cut down processing bandwidth for a smoother video? eg turn off auto transcription?

Do you know if the video itself is jumpy when recording or just the playback? If not sure you can download the recording to your computer and play it back to see. And how long is the recording and do you have other videos in this project? The bigger the project, the slower Descript gets. Descript is pretty resource intensive, so it could also come down to your computer specs. You can try Descript's web based editor in beta, sometimes we've had better playback experiences there.

It's only a few seconds long and is the only video in the project - ie unfortunately as soon as I start recording a tiny test case, it is jumpy. Thanks! So with the quality - I wish they had more control or gave more info on what settings it's using. You can try Share to get the Share URL, then download from the Share page. But in my experience that's been worse quality. with the video do you mean it looks like it's getting squished? Or is it cropping it vertically?

HD video is a 16:9 ration, usually 1920x1080. If you're computer monitor & screen recording is set to a different ratio, when you import into Descript and edit it the video might not fill the screen or you may need to crop the video to fill the screen. Check your screen recording settings so you record in a 16:9 aspect ratio.

Descript in theory sounds amazing, but in practice it's absolutely terrible. It works great if you edit the EXACT way they want you to edit, otherwise it becomes a nightmare to use and navigate. The interface and timeline is extremely clunky, takes ages to do simply move things around and it's extremeny buggy - I had to re-edit 2 of my 30 min videos because they got messed up by descript. The only plus is the script editor and the dubbing feature but I'm 100% sure there will be more tools out there that will do a much better job soon. Also they changed the entire UX overnight so users like me who purchased an annual plan before that got stuck with a headache inducing nonsensical editing experience, very different from what it was before.

MY video colour gets totally trashed when I export (or even import it). The displays looke like it has had the Saturation turned up to max, and I can't seem to undo those effects when I import it to Da Vinci resolve. I lose all the time I've saved in editing by trying to fix the ghastly colour.

What did you record your source video on and what were the settings? Sounds like you might've recorded in HDR - when you import to Descript or other programs it'll try to convert it to SDR and the colors go crazy. If you have HDR on (Rec 2020) turn it off or switch to Rec 709

hmm I don't think there is a way, just to adjust speed. You'll probably have to use a free online tool to convert the clip, then bring it back into Descript. Like this one clideo.com/reverse-video

Like when you cut out some text you have to go to the timeline to smooth it out?
