"Hei" or "terve" = regular greeting "Moi" = friendly greeting (to someone you know otherwise it might be weird) "Moikka" or "heippa" = friendly bye Use "hei" if you want to interrupt someone You don't have to say "hyvää" = good with "huomenta" = morning, "päivää" = day and "iltaa" = evening Only in "hyvää yötä" = good night (only used when going to sleep) Or without "hyvää" you can say "öitä" = nights (mostly used with other people outside of your own family) cannot be used with "hyvää" If you have any question about Finnish language, I can answer it :)
@tyynymyy7770

To add that in Finland there is no need to be super formal when interacting with cashiers so many people seem to greet them with "moi". However, when leaving the store you shouldn't use "moikka" and "moi moi" because they are only used between friends and I think many cashiers would find that rather confusing - thus not polite. It is true that in everyday situations "hyvää" is often left out. For example "iltaa" is already in partitive case so the "hyvää" can be implied from the context. That's at least how I see it.

@@tyynymyy7770 Hmm... When I go to Finnish stores, bars, restaurants, employees greets me with moi/hei (80/20%), and always says goodbye as moi-moi. (No matter, the rest of the dialogue is in English.) Do I look so friendly? =)

+Emi Altea Hi Emi Altea! When pronouncing the Finnish 'a', you can say the English word "part" - the way you say 'a' in this word, is the way you say 'a' in Finnish too. And when you want to pronounce 'ä', you can say for example "Adam" or "cat", and the Finnish 'ä' will be pronounced like the 'a' is pronounced in these English words.
