I'm a 3 month noob and am soaking up as much of this content as possible. I've made two mistakes that cost me and they were both things that I don't know how i could have seen coming. Sometimes the only way to learn is by failure, not that you want to fail, but when it happens you just have to embrace the lesson. I made it almost three months and then had a couple returns in one day, which freaked me out, but got them handled. There is a lot more to doing this than most people imagine. Good info. Thanks!

Then he cancelled on his purchase around the same price, smh. I also lost $2k shipping a similar item, not knowing how to properly ship heavy/fragile/expensive items. After that I paid $100 to learn from a pro, and haven't had a single similar issue since... and I specialize in the hard to ship items a lot of the time. Keep it up, the sky is the limit!

If I go on vacation, I use Ebay's "time away" setting where you are still allowing sales but the buyer sees a message saying that you won't be able to ship until x date (before they purchase) - that way I don't have to bulk edit my handling time. :) I wish Posh an Mercari had that setting so that you can still make sales while away but just get a longer handling time!

@la6136 Жыл бұрын
Why would you not offer a partial refund first?
@traceytheisen8067 Жыл бұрын
@@la6136 I agree with her and do the same and have been a top rated seller for a decade. You do it because it's not worth the hassle or aggravation to bicker about a partial refund. If the item is a $1,000 item then request it back but for most items under a hundred or so just refund and move on. Yes you may lose some money, but it's the cost of doing business and often it's our fault it was listed incorrectly, had a flaw, etc. Sometimes when we work out of our house or other paid location everything is 'personal' vs imagining you had a retail shop and something fell off the shelf or a customer accidentally broke an item you'd just toss it, cost it off inventory, and move on. It's the same thing. Especially with eBay, it's not worth worrying about negative feedback or a customer complaint later on. Often you'll end up with a great review or even a future customer.

Hi Becky. While listening to this I found a shirt listed for $1,850 LOL - supposed to be 18.50 - glad I found THAT. Long ago I listed an item 'free shipping' simply because I had not taken the time to really LEARN shipping yet. Huge mistake, ended up being a large box and the shipping cost me so much that I made nothing at all. The other mistake I have to watch for is shipping wrong item OUCH - sold black leather purse and had 2 or 3 in my inventory, grabbed wrong one UGH - in this case I quickly shipped the right one and told seller they could keep both - OUCH again. When many orders go out, also easy to confuse shipping labels, so I do them one at a time. Better slow than sorry. We all make mistakes. What's important is that we LEARN from them. And I learn a lot from YOU. THX.

Do you think there's another way to avoid getting dinged if you are out of stock? It's only happened to me once that I was about to ship something and I noticed a flaw I hadn't seen before. So I asked the buyer if they wanted to cancel and they did. Luckily I got no message from Ebay. But it seems to me Ebay is trying to be like Amazon and have no mistakes, while they should really lean into the fact that most sellers on the platform are small business owners who are doing their best, and leave them some room to negotiate a good outcome with the buyer. In my case, I told the buyer I would refund them but ship the item to them at my own expense and then they could decide whether it was worth keeping or not (the flaw was minor). It seems the lack of options for sellers is making things harder and harder on Ebay.

Which is better private party or business? And 1000’s more questions but great start with your video! Thank you!

One of the best video's I've seen from you. Great info. FYI: there is bit of a difference (legally) between "stock photos" and 'copyrighted images' - most 'brand photos' on the brand's page are COPYRIGHTED (not stock), and often OWNED BY THAT COMPANY. Whereas, "Stock" tends to be more generic, licensed for 'use' and 're-use' by MANY DIFFERENT people/companies under a license. Smaller companies *might* employ some 'stock' - but the mega companies tend to 'own' (and completely control) their 'copyrighted' images (as they pay the photog TO DO THE SHOOT specifically FOR THEM, under contract... rather than just licensing the images). Often a person never knows WHICH IS WHICH, until it's a problem. Bottom line, photos the PERSON TAKES ARE THEIRS - their copyright, their control, their ownership, with FEW EXCEPTIONS: taking photos of photos, taking photos of 'copyrighted' or 'trademarked' materials (such as retail packaging with copyrighted photos or trademarks)). Agreed on the 'Buyer Cancelled' - eBay has supposedly added an AI bot checking messages of canceled items for certain key words (so I've been told). Unless I screwed up, which has happened, I've appealed every INAD - and won every appeal where I was in the right, to date. Photos & descriptions of any and all flaws really solves that problem. Not putting 'used' (or pre-owned) goods as 'NEW' - or broken as 'used' also helps a great deal. Appreciate your experience about auctions... agreed 100% When you 'lower the price' (on eBay) on your 'sell-similar' - do you use any type of 'code' in the price or description (or elsewhere) to signify how many times you've 'discounted' an item? Also, regarding the Puerto Rico ... it's ALSO THE SAME FOR ALL US TERRITORIES (Guam, VI, American Samoa - are ones I've shipped to... mostly Guam).

However, I've had to send multiple items to Cali and Washington State. I live in Florida. Shipping was costing me 9-12 dollars on low cost item. I was only making 4-5 bucks on some things. I've started reevaluating free shipping on a lot of things and splitting the cost. So I'll be charging a flat rate of $1.99 to 4.99 on some items. eBay vs Poshmark pricing: I assume buyers check other platforms for things they're interested in (I do!). Because of that, I price the same on eBay and Poshmark, because it can a) look sus b) cause someone to send an offer when they might buy outright and c) the ease of consistancy. BUT!! This effectively means the item costs 20% less for my eBay buyers without my having to look to buyers like I price differently for different platforms. Just an idea to consider!!

Ebay froze her account and she settled through a lawyer for $250.00 which she said was not bad compared to what she could have been looking at. Quick listing is not worth the time it saves. After recently seeing a 60 Minutes episode on the stalking lawsuit, I was reminded that they do still thrive and was then horrified at their practices! Just wondering if you’ve seen it. Definitely recommend!

Great video!! I didn’t know that about the returns : I also have a PO Box and don’t visit it often. So far, I haven’t had any issues not refunding very fast. I’ve done it a week or two after it’s been delivered and haven’t had it ding me yet 🤷🏻♀️

This is very surprising to me, I guess you have lucked out somehow? If eBay has to close a return for you, they typically refund in full including shipping. I would double check your seller level stats to make sure they aren’t punishing you… best wishes.

I know that we cannot use a stock photo but is it ok if we cut and paste the item description from a company’s website?

I use to get hurt when something was returned. Now, I just accept it and not deal with negative emotions. However, I still struggle with NWOT sales. When the individual wears it just under 30 days before returning it. I then have to re-list it as pre-owned. Last week I sold a NWOT dress with embroidery flowers on it. It was beautiful. Buyer stated it was damaged with fraying flowers. I accept and paid for the return shipping. They haven't returned yet - just waiting to see if it legimate return or someone wanting to wear something free for 30 days. I did look at her feedback and I see 5 negative feedback. Most times when I feel they are not quality buyers I will automatically put them on the block list after I send the refund.

Hi Becky! Thanks for this helpful video. Do you have an EBay store? If so which monthly fee to you pay for your store? I saw there are several options. Thank you!

I charge a flat rate shipping fee of 6$ because I mostly sell clothing and the charge is usually under 6$ and I just “Eat” the balance if it is over the 6$

Do you go through your inventory at least once a year to make sure you have all items listed? I have done this as I have found items that have fallen off my eBay sight but are still in my inventory bin.

Great tip on the tactic on items no longer in stock. But guess I wont try it. I have 3 of these cases in 4 months after selling for over 2 years.

It sounds like eBay wants you to put all your time with them. What are they getting out of it from the seller? No one has mentioned if they get a percentage from your sell. I wanted to put things on eBay to sell after my mom went into an Assisted living facility. That's it. Maybe a few things from my closets. Would I be on the right platform or do I need to do this elsewhere?
