Danny - best of luck. I'm not playing at the moment as I've taken up piano. Love both though.. The key for me was the teacher. I found an old school piano teacher that makes me learn everything - scales, technique, theory, etc. I really like her.

I'm 62 and I've been taking lessons now for about 5 months. I played (noodled) around during my life on a couple of occasions, but nothing serious. I am struggling a bit with my decreased memory (not as sharp a pencil as I used to be). Learning triad and 7th inversions has been a real cognitive challenge, but forcing my mind to work again was a part of why I decided to go for it. Nothing of value is easy. Good luck with your journey.

!!! Greetings from Montréal, Québec, Canada !!! I am 62 yrs. old, I started playing guitar at 16 (1976) but did not put the effort or pratice to really improve my playing. At 62, closer to retirement, I want to start over, sit down and take the time to study what I should have done in my early years. Keep pratcicing, the best is yet to come !!! Beautiful guitar, I wish I had one like that, but being LEFTHANDED' they come to a more expensive price !!! Stay healthy and have fun enjoying your guitar !!! Cheers !!!

@Milous hey. I started at 13 and carried on until I was 31…got married…sold my GLPC LH and my Marshall stack. Didn’t play again until I was 66 and retired. Started having lessons last January. Ordered a GLPC LH 57 reissue Black Beauty and still waiting for it. Bought a Fender Mustang 100w GTX, Boss pedal board and stomp boxes (Boss Waza) and I’m enjoying every minute! I use my Antoria SG copy. Oh yeah,mi also bought a Martin acoustic which is a beautiful guitar.
@adriancoppin977
@adriancoppin977 2 жыл бұрын
@Milous I started playing at 13 in 1968 when the likes of Cream, Black Sabbath, Led Zep, Deep Purple, Free, Jethro Tull, etc, were hitting the streets. I stopped when I got married in 1981 as that took up all my free time, upgrading and cleaning home, visiting relatives. I had the good fortune to visit Memphis TN with my wife in 2014 and I visited what was then THE Gibson factory. I didn’t buy one! My wife asked why I didn’t, as we walked down the steps from the entrance to the footpath and I said that we had enough luggage and a guitar would be a big burden…regretted it ever since…which is why I ordered my GLPC LH 57 reissue Black Beauty at a cost of £6,500.
@adriancoppin977
@adriancoppin977 2 жыл бұрын
@Milous I just want to spend my retirement by doing something relatively well that makes me happy and stops me from becoming senile after being inspired by J. Hendrix and J. Page. It was December 9th 1971 that I saw Led Zep live. They played for 3.5 hours and it cost a cool one pound sterling. It was at the Locarno Ballroom in Coventry and there was also a bomb scare.

I'm 53 and started when I was 8. My mom and dad played also. I learned enough chords to play around a campfire and that was good enough for a long time. Last year decided I wanted to learn lead and been practicing on average of 4 to 6 hours a day on my scales, patterns, note locations etc. And it's been great. I hope you stick with it because there'll be a point real soon for you where progress comes really quick. You don't look 60 btw.

I do a little and learn some, then ill get pissed and not pick it up for 4 or 5 days. But i am learning, self teaching through the great stuff on youtube. Wish you the best at continued learning!

Well done my friend, it looks like I'm not alone in starting to learn guitar at an advanced age, I'm 68. The boss (read "wife") has told Santa to get me a guitar for Xmas and I'm very much looking forward to starting, AGAIN!. I tried to self teach the guitar about 12-15 years ago, but after a couple of months, having made little or no progress, I sold the guitar and all that went with it. I'm definitely much more optimistic this time because of all the videos, websites etc, that are freely available on the internet. The one drawback, I feel, is that my hands aren't as supple as they were last time, but I'm hoping that doing finger exercises will loosen the joints off a bit. If anyone has any advice regarding a particular learning method, perhaps what you find is working for you, I'd be extremely grateful to receive their hints and tips. Many thanks and the best of luck to each and every one of us, "older" beginners.

I initially started when i was 17. Self taught more or less with others giving me some stuff that i could play such the house of the rising sun as it was simple enough with just a few chords. I also like riding a road bike (bicycle). I smashed my fretting pinky against a car in a safeway parking lot and broke it when i was 22. The pinky is now permanently bent downward at a 45 degree angle. This made fretting with the pinky extremely hard. It was at this point i slowly stopped playing and the guitar went in its stand. Only picked it up now and then. Then because of movign house ect i sold it. Now, 30 years later, i jsut picked it up again thsi month. I had to work on how to play the old stuff as a lot of it was nearly forgotten. I never forgot the chord shapes though. So in the first three frets i know most of the most frequently used chords ( A, Am, B, Bm, D, Dm, E, Em, F, Fm and so forth up the scale, the 7th variants of those and some sus ones but not all). I taught myself a few 3 chord progressions, A, E, D for example or Am C G and began to do what i call a turn around as it resolves back to root. Just keep at it. When doing chords take your time to lay the fingers down and make sure the string sounds clean. The chord change speed will improve with time and before you know it chord changes are not much at all and you will be thirsty for more. At 51 i am in the same boat as you pretty much. Starting over. House of the rising sun = Am C D F Am E Am E. At least that was the way i was taught. Happy i started to rem how to play wish you were here. Pink Floyds wish you were here was the song that got me into guitar.

You're not so good but way better than me. I started last night. I practiced tonight with some KZbin tutorials. My fingers are sore so I know I made at least some progress. Couldn't take any more so I'm now playing my drums. I've been playing drums on and off since 6th grade. They have always interrupted me from other instruments. I got good enough at keyboard where people act like I'm just so very good. I'm not as good as they think. I fake it real well with strong drummer hands and arms and a great interest in music and years of doing it. With all that said heres how it works. Unless you are just that super overly gifted virtuoso person which most of us are not than it's going to take lots of practice time. Even the best need to develop whatever they are gifted with. Figure at least a half hour a day or more if you want to get good. If you want to become professional work at it more than an hour a day. For most of us it's not so easy and it takes a lot of dedication and time. When I was a kid I put on headphones and played along with the radio and my sisters albums. Fortunately she had Hendrix, The Who, The Beatles, etc. I hammered them out over and over when I couldn't even finish some. Gradually I got better and stronger, like Steve Austin, and began playing rush. I couldn't even finish 2112. Eventually I could finish side one and then side two. But it took months. But I did it and I did it well. So stick with whatever you are trying to accomplish. For most of us it doesn't come easy.

Damn brother!!! You DO NOT LOOK 60. So I've been playing for 27 years now. I took lessons for 3 years early on. I never learned theory or how to read music. I can read tab of course. But I just wanted to tell you that lessons are great,....but you will get much further, much quicker, if you can find some who has been playing for at least 8 to 10 years and is into the music you like. At this early stage in your journey,.. it's much more beneficial to play along with someone and have them show you those LITTLE THINGS that the book your studying simply wont. Hand on is the best way. Theory is like school,....its important to a degree. But you'll use very little of it in real world playing situations. Just being honest here. Beautiful guitar by the way. I just started a channel and have one video up. Give check it out and let me know what you think. Keep it up. Your on your way.

Learn Guitar at 60! You bet. Just turned 60 and have been working out for a while. Not going to let my wife see this video until my results are better. 😁 Been drumming 40 years and just picked up guitar. Really inspired by your video brother. Thanks!

So you are 67 now ? I'm 64 and just bought my first guitar in over 50 years, trying not to get on my wife's nerves practicing too much.

Hi Mark - sorry I never get on here... Yes - for now - I've stopped playing the guitar and I'm taking piano lessons. The key IMO is the teacher. I will pick up the guitar again but for now - piano!
