I spent the last 6 months teaching myself music theory on the guitar. I can't play many songs but I can come up with things on my own pretty easily. Honestly theory is one of the most important things you can learn
@baebae19162 жыл бұрын
Hi what channel do you recommend??? im a beginner guitarist and i want to learn music theory but i don't know where to start😢
@FremontLeland2 жыл бұрын
What methods did you use to learn theory?
@goopbrain89192 жыл бұрын
@@FremontLeland well I watched the music theory basics from pretty much every video you'd find looking it up. Regardless of if it's on guitar or not music theory translates to all instruments. After that I mapped out all the notes on the fretboard and learned the intervals for major and minor by literally drawing each one out for each note till it burned into my memory. Then I started finding all the chords and their inversions on my own. I wrote about half a notebook worth of shit that I know. Most of it was repeating it to beat it in but if you do it enough you'll literally know every chord placement and what notes you can play with that. Learning the circle of fifths, fourths, thirds (for each key/mode) and how chord functions work make it easy to make a good progression and learning how to harmonize a melody is pretty useful too. I personally don't have much else to do and I lost the love I had for games and tv so I basically spend all my time on guitar and learning theory so my 6-7 months are filled with so many 6-10 hour days spent on learning so don't expect it all to come to you fast, it takes time. Just grind out alot of self study of your instrument and never settle for your skills so you always improve. Songs can be a base to learn off of but knowing how to make your own songs is pretty cool ~ Hope this helped :)
@goopbrain89192 жыл бұрын
@@baebae1916 I'd suggest signals music studio, musictheoryforguitar, Paul David, and Shawn Dean. For technical stuff berneth and jazz just watch the old dude with glasses and a bunch of subs :) Also don't think that because a video is on piano that you'll get nothing from it, music theory translates to all instruments ~

This video is awesome because it shows us the real truth about the process of learning to play and that almost everyone starts out struggling and sounding bad, but those who endure and keep practicing anyway, eventually will learn to play well. I learned mostly everything just by picking up new songs. Also if you really wanna step up your game talk to people who know a lot more than you do, there’s nothing embarrassing about learning. I’ve learned more in months picking up things from experts than I did in years by myself.
@highvibezz31002 жыл бұрын
I think the main problem with those YT lessons is, that most of the teachers waste minutes about talking where which finger sits (something you see anyways if you watch the video), while they don't talk one word about the picking pattern and the rythm. That's a rythm problem i recognized by myself in the beginning and in yours too. But you developed stil great in this year, keep going. But as an advice i would recommend you to practice with a metronome and to figure out the rythm for every song. Rythm is one of the most important characteristics of a guitar player and at the same time the thing many guitar players never learn.

learning guitar is the easy part. learning music theory and how to compose, is the challenge. i find that EVERYONE overcomplicates playing guitar in their heads, and thus MAKES it harder on themselves. when playing is actually simple once you grasp the concepts. when i stumbled on some leaps in playing, i realized it was WAY easier than i played it up to be. it was ME overcomplicating it. its really not as hard as it looks. and i came from wind instruments in middle school classical band, and FORGETTING how to read sheet music (about 10 years between woodwinds and guitars)

I love this video and ones like it. My son started very young and is an amazing player. I just picked up the guitar again after struggling and giving up MANY years ago. What surprised me was how many chords I knew and could play effortlessly. That said, there's a ceiling I hit very quickly. It's cool to watch you fight through it. I watch my son and I feel like he knows some magic trick to make it look so easy. But, then I remembered how he had a guitar in his hands every waking moment. @@md.l230think of 20 songs you’d love to learn on guitar, are they mostly electric then buy electric if not then buy an acoustic, I have both, but love playing acoustic more as the sound is just there and I mostly want to learn acoustic songs i.e. this is the sea, both sides now, lotta Neil Young etc

Best investment I made was a Harley Benton Traveler-E-Steel, small guitar body full size neck, practice while watching tv, waiting in the car, lying in bed it’s brilliant, abp always be practicing 😁

Nice man :) I wish most of my students were as diligent as you are :) Pro tip: Buy a clip tuner and make sure that you are always in tune and check every 20/30 min to keep it tuned, the G and B strings are the worst!

in about 3rd minute you start playing with some sort of comfort, well its not even a month since you picked it up, consistency is the key, keep going man

I’ve been picking up and putting down my guitars for the last roughly 6years not until recently I started to take lessons, and the lessons definitely help me keep going because it makes me have to be accountable to someone to prove I’m practicing. I love that you’re self taught, it’s a pretty awesome feeling to teach yourself how to do something. My self taught stuff is working on cars and driving’s stick shift, unfortunately playing guitar isn’t one of them but hopefully I’ll be able to play well some day!

I did expect to hear Smells Like Teen Spirit and all that; I did *not* however, expect to hear "Jessica" for some reason.

i started in September on a silver tone amp and guitar for $140 “very bad” and played like 6 hours a day for the first month and then progressively played around 30-60minutes a day weekends up to 3 hours and eventually got a Mexican strat and boss katana “insanely better” now started playing like 5 hours a day and i never learned cords i played a lot of songs but mainly went into solos recently and can play the star spangled banner californiacation knockin on heavens door dani california sweetchild o mine and more “solos” and i’ve gotten extremely fast at learning songs and have gotten good at hamer on and pull offs as well as alternate picking and bends keeping going for everyone in this comment section i’m only 14 anyone can play guitar
@MRC113922 жыл бұрын
i started playing last may (on a cheap classical guitar, now i’ve upgraded to a fender strat) and i’m focusing more on rhythm guitar but also love to play solos and melodies for songs. chords are foundational for any type of playing, it’s really nice to be able to play the rhythm of a song and not just the solo(s) bc then a whole new world of possibilities opens up. i suggest spending some time on chords just so you can whip them out if needed

How can I learn music notes without relying on apps? 😢
@grantt276472 жыл бұрын
@@cheekymonkeygirl3378 if your relying on apps that tell you when to hit each note yoi shooed probably start trying tabs and eventually you’ll get there or watch youtube videos just do whatever you think you should imo don’t give up if you can’t learn anything but with that apps
