I am 62 and you have taught me a new way of rigging for big cats. I do appreciate it and this old dog will give it a shot. Very good vid.

Steve, a little secret is before you crimp the aluminum sleeve melt the tag end to make a ball. Once it cools to touch, pull the ball tight up against the sleeve then crimp. This keeps it from tangling back on your line which happens from time to time with a long tag end. Another cat fisherman showed me and I haven't had a snag line on line since.
@thestonesaver6345 Жыл бұрын
That’s a great idea. It would also prevent any possible line pull throughs on the tag end side.

I've been using kite floats and crimping for a long time in catfishing and my custom lure shop and they work great. If you use a polamar knot to tie your main line to the swivel, usually the hook will straighten out before that line ever breaks.

Another thing i do is to take pliars and mash the very tag end of the mono flat, past the metal crimp clip. Its just a little extra insurance that in case you didnt get a good crimp and the mono were to try to slip back through, the mashed flat end of the mono will be too big to slip through. Probably not necessary but only takes a second to do it.

I've beennusing the 2.5 floats for almost a year and I wouldn't use anything else. The bulbous shape of the bobber helps the hook run over snags because the bobber is wider than the hook.

I have been crimping rigs for a while.. There is a loop you can ad to your hook with a crimp and still get the same effect as a snell!!

Are you not afraid of the knots making the line weak. I've always been told that a knot is a weak point. Maybe use a crimp instead of a knot. Thanks

I like them wire floats you made but I still think you need to try mono over 100 pound test to get the most out of crimping🦅I see a lot of ocean fishing guys use 300- 600 pound leader material

Please let us know if you recommend a hook that avoids the cat’s eye better. I use a Charlie Brown 9/0 circle hook and wish it didn’t do so much damage. If I was meat fishing it might be different but I’m sport fishing mostly. Thanks…enjoy your videos.

I crimped for a while using basically the same technique/tool and landed a lot of fish. But one day a 5-pound channel cat shaking violently caused the crimp edge to slice through the 50lb mono leader. I don't pretend to be an expert, but I don't see how it is possible to crimp without the end result being line sitting next to a sharp metal edge. (I'm going to try crimping with wire leaders next.)

I heard a saltwater fisherman say he ties everything up until about 60 pound mono. He said 60#, he only uses crimps. I’ve personally never used them just been looking at what’s out there.

Steve, are the copper double barrel crimp sleeves ok for 50 lb mono? I cannot find aluminum double barrel in the .8 size. All I can find in aluminum is the .8 oval. They work fine at the bench but can you tell me if they are as solid as a double barrel? And have you had problems with copper sleeves causing breaks at the sleeve? Thanks sir...didnt know who else to ask.
@SteveDouglastheCatfishDude Жыл бұрын
I use the HI Seas GS-I-500 aluminum sleeves. im not sure of the others. I found that the double barrel sleeves are not that important . good luck and thanks for stooping by to leave a comment

I cheat and buy my demon dragons on Amazon, and wlure, without the crimping involved. Use a lot of swivels instead of crimps and pliers. Our cats are not as large as yours and we are allowed only one rod per person here in Ontario Canada in most bodies of water. Would be nice to have more than one rod when the bite is on.....🐋
