I love you...I am very interested in education and why we teach Literature. You make so much sense and I can get quite angry at teachers who do not make it relevant or interesting...thank you from a new found fan. XX

Thank you, Mr. Sato, for your wonderfully interesting and straight-forward videos. I am using every one in my English class as I try to flip the classroom. Hope to see more from you. Irony would be great to see next. Again, thank you!

Thank you for your kind comment, Stacey! Good idea about making a vid on irony, but in the meantime, I touch on irony in the satire and figurative language videos.

"Reading between the lines" has its place but I don't try to do it because it's a great way to make major mistakes in interpretation. Reading between the lines is a great way to miss the actual lines.

Yes, making inferences involves accepting some assumptions that may be incorrect. That's part of the bravery of making inferences, taking a risk, drawing a conclusion at the risk of being wrong!

I'll read the quote and decide that it doesn't support your inference. That's your idea of evidence? It won't work for me. That's evidence of a sackful of nothing. That's not evidence of anything remotely connected to your claim.

lol
@truthseeker18716 жыл бұрын
OK, you say you think it therefore it's evidence. Sorry. That won't work. You think it means you believe it. That doesn't make it a fact. That makes it your belief. I don't accept your belief. I believe something entirely different that what you believe. Your belief is not evidence of anything that comes close to supporting your inference or your claim.

you could say its base on your own imagination. your logic or the way you view things could be fallicious or fautly(dont know the word).

_He never said that his belief in something was the evidence in a specific topic. He is looking at the evidence at the atmosphere, how the_ _objects come in contact with _*_WHAT YOU THINK_*_ happened, etc. But it is a prediction wherein in one of his examples, the dog chewed up the_ _cereal box. He was explaining how everything worked out. However, he did not say anything about his belief becoming evidence in a situation._

This was great until the last few seconds where it says people who make inferences are "smart" and those who can't make inferences are "slow". I went from liking the video to thumbs down, removing it from my watch later saved list, and unsubscribing. I do not want the kids to accidentally see that ending. There are many "smart" people that have trouble making inferences, yet they can talk your ear off about molecular biology. (Ever watch Sheldon on the Big Bang?!?) I wanted to help my child learn more about making inferences. He is 2 years ahead in math. Was reading full books as a toddler. Tested gifted. But he's very literal and has trouble reading between the lines sometimes. I would hate for him to think he's "slow" or "not smart" if he listens to this video in it's entirety. Honestly, the whole concept of smart is horrible. I don't tell my kid is smart, because that could actually create a fear of failing if he encounters something more difficult. It is not a motivational word. But he knows his peers aren't as good at math as he is. There are lots of adjectives that can make a child feel special and keep them motivated. Research has shown "smart" is not one of those words. But I also would never ever ever tell him he's slow. He's not! So, I would never want him to think that he's slow just because he struggles with reading between the lines, no matter how hard he tries. And I certainly wouldn't want him to hear that in a youtube video. He is wired differently and that's okay! So am I !!! We have things we excel at and we have things we learn about more and more every day. Please consider changing the end of this presentation. Everything else in the video was good, except the last few lines. Please consider using non-ableist terminology to encourage your viewers to practice making inferences.
