Bob Ross got me interested in painting about a year ago.... but the somewhat heavy almost impasto method he used, although very beautiful, was not exactly my style. But you, Stephen, have helped me to define the style and method with which I am far more comfortable and which I enjoy immensely (like, for example, using a brush instead of a pallet knife). I am so happy to have found your excellent tutorials where there are no time lapsed segments; just painting and explaining as you go... an hour never goes so fast as when I am watching you paint and talk. Thank you so much for being a talented artist and wonderful teacher.

The problem with Bob Ross is......well it's obvious...everyone who follows his instructions end up with a paintings just like his. You said you painted Bob Ross barns....that's exactly what the are... Bob Ross barns. It's the same with his mountains and trees. People are not painting their own mountains or trees they are painting Bob Ross trees and mountains using Bob Ross techniques that's why everyone who follows Bob Ross instructions end up with painting exactly the same as his. The paintings are just copies of Bob Ross. Anyone who wants to be an artist should use their own eyes to paint the world. The correct way to paint mountains for example is not copy someone else's or their techniques.....research through visiting mountains and sketching and painting them through own eyes is the correct way of painting mountains. That's how we as humans learn to be artists.....seeing the world through our own eyes and then painting what our eyes see.. A tv show is not the way to learn to this. Bob Ross tutorial will not make anyone an artist or painter.

@@trueblue374 you are exactly right! That's why I chose my own style😉
@trueblue3744 жыл бұрын
@@sundrenched53 Glad to hear you chose your own style. At art colleges and art schools Bob Ross techniques are seen as a nuisance because people who have followed Bob Ross and go to art college or art school continue to paint in his style. One thing art tutors at these colleges and schools hate......Bob Ross techniques.

Well Stephen, it looks absolutely spectacular. That is a fantastic tutorial my friend. I've subscribed to your channel and hope you keep teaching and sharing. I love to paint landscapes with old barns . I need a lot of practice on trees to make them look 3 dimensional. I'm trying to get things to jump out at me or come forward instead of being so flat on the canvas. I love painting beautiful afternoon sunsets with all the colors in the clouds big rough majestic mountains. I've got that down pretty good I think. Those trees are really busting my butt. So maybe you could do a landscape video with a variety of background middle ground and foreground trees to give us a look at creating some proper 3 D trees From your perspective Stephen. Thanks again for your videos. Really enjoyed them. Good luck and God bless ✌😎🇺🇸🌻

When you sketch out structures what kind of pencil do you recommend to ensure lines don't show through? Do you also always add linseed oil to canvas as a light base? Thanks!! Just subscribed too.
@EasyOilPainting4 жыл бұрын
Hi Randy... i just use a regular pencil. 2b i think.... the lines dissapear as i paint over them which is fine... i do sometimes put a light layer of linseed oil on the canvas before i start but it dries in .. it does make the canvas nice and smooth..
@randyclarke42004 жыл бұрын
@@EasyOilPainting how long do you let the linseed oil dry in for or do you simply apply right before and wipe excess off so it feels dry?
@EasyOilPainting4 жыл бұрын
@@randyclarke4200 i just rub on a light coat with a cloth and leave it for a few minutes..even if its dry when i start painting the paint unlocks it one i put on the paint and its wonderfully smooth
