there are a few things you need to know about this game. 1, the reason you "need to look at your cards" when all hands push on dealer's Ace-High(PaiGow) is because the side bets are still in play. If you have ace high at the same time it pays 40to1. Also, full houses, straights and so on pay on the fortune bonus. 2, Joker is ONLY WILD if used to make a straight or a flush...if not then it counts as an ACE. 3, setting up your hand can be done any way to beat the dealer's 2 hands as long as your two card hand is less value than your five card hand. 4. Ace high pai gow seems to run in streaks. Only play that side bet for 3 or 4 hands after the dealer had an Ace High.

The biggest mistake a beginner makes is that they don't put their cards in order. A, K, Q...... Makes it easy to see pairs, straights, etc. And you can't mix up the higher pair either.

Pai Gow is a great game to play on a small bankroll due to the high number of pushes (approximately 40% I believe) which also means that it's not a great gambling game.. The thing to remember is that you do NOT have to play best hand / second best hand. You don't even have to play your BEST hand on the H place. You can play ANY combination of hands as long as the H hand is better than the L hand. That happens A LOT in Face Up where you know the hands you have to beat

Pai Gow Poker is one of those games that I have on my list of pit games to try but never seem to get around to--especially with the Progressive Jackpots some of them have in some locations. I do believe there is some sort of basic strategy known as the "House Way" that can serve as a basis for any sort of situational hands you may get dealt. Makes it feel more strategic but differently from the snap decision strategy needed for Blackjack.

Hold up...at 12:30 he says he has "Ace high pai gow" I don't see how you pushed with 2 pair. One pair on top, the 7's and the other pair on the bottom, the 8's. Why didn't he pay you?

It is always a push when the dealer has a Pai Gow in Face up Pai Gow. The only thing they look for at that point is side bets.

The beauty of this game is that your hand is not affected by whether another player or players join in unlike other table games. This is the best game (usually) to have your money last. You have to be lucky as in any other table game to come out ahead but that is the nature of gambling.
