Just had to post my newby experience with my new mini sax. After discovering the mini sax by accident on KZbin, I was taken with its sax like sound... had to have one! Sight unseen I drove to meet it's creator, Alex. He was most friendly, and it was truly a pleasure to spent time with him. My expectations for his mini sax were far exceeded by its quality and the solidness of its construction. I'm so pleased with it. I still have much to learn but that's part of the fun. Love it!

Dumas, yes you can. Close all holes, stick the mouthpiece deeper in your mouth and blow. Initially you’ll probably get a high E, but you can in time bend it down to high D. It takes a little bit of practice.

Hello I think in the third full measure the last note must be a G instead an A

The answer for "Happy Birthday" tone A or G: "Yes! You are absolutely right! People use "G" instead of "A"! I was trying to find out what is the real story (traditional, two sisters, or . . . ?) and I found the version with "A" instead of "G"! I tried it and I liked it so much! It's sounding more "romantic", more "for the kids", or even more "jazzy" - because it is a dominant harmonic chord "C7" (in the key of F) with "A" tone added = "C7,6"! But, anyway, we don't know "original" version and: Thank you for noticing and you are right.

Hello Mr Alex, I watched the tutorial "How to Play: Happy Birthday". Everything is well described. But in the 6th measure (time 06:45) two Bb's should be played (Hap-py). You explained it: First close all the holes - then open the first hole on the button and the first hole on the top. This is Bb! In your own quick start guide this tone (Bb) is described differently: All holes are to be closed: than open the first from the top and the last two at the button. OK, but then you played the two Bb's completely differently at the end (please watch 08:35!) Please explain again. best regards Heinrich

I have a bit different xaphoon - seven holes in front and two in the back , makes me confused to find the right note...

Xaphoon is much more complicated than the mini sax when it comes to fingering. Best thing to do is get in touch with the shop or manufacturer you got it from. Our stainless steel mini sax has its own fingering: www.minisax.com/s/quick-start.pdf

Maybe you have air leakage, try closing all the holes and blowing to see if air leaks from the sides of the mouthpiece.

It is very hard to mute down any wind instrument, including our mini sax. Our mini sax has the highest db count of 106db and average of 93db which is significantly less loud than the real tenor sax.

Sure, xaphoon has 8 holes and therefore a bigger range and a way more complicated fingering. Unfortunately the additional tones (range) are high pitch and sound squeaky. That's why we decided to go with 6 holes, much easier to learn and better sounding.

It's a hit and miss when I blow to get a note out good sound comes out and then it squeeze what am I doing wrong

Maybe you have air leakage... try to re-position your reed and re-tighten the ligature. Also maybe your reed is no good.

You do not need to use so much breath. It is important how you place your mouth on the mouthpiece so you do not end up blowing so much. You have to practice practice and get a feel of the instrument.
