Thank you, Jay. I’m a self taught bassist with 50+ years and still learning. I picked up keyboard for composing and arranging my own songs and later went to guitar. I’ve always felt drawn to sax and asked players which one was easier to start with. A young lady who happens to play sax in our music ministry heard about my interest in sax. One Sunday she gave me her student alto…a Bundy II. Well you don’t have to guess what my resolution for 2024 is…😉

I swear watching your videos got me to the point of ordering a beginner saxophone. I've played guitar for 14 years and still have always thought the scream of a sax is by far my favorite sounding instrument. Watching you lately gave me the confidence to spend a larger amount of money on an instrument I've never even held. Looking forward to watching more content and learning a completely new thing! I thank you for the confidence boost to make that purchase!

@@cons4943 well at first it took me a while to get the embouchure and build up the muscles but I stuck to it. I've learned a bunch of songs so far all covers of modern songs though. Really focus on learning by ear! That helped me SOOOO MUCH! being able to perfectly match the note as soon as you hear it makes learning an incredible amount easier! If you're first picking up the sax don't get discouraged by the dying goose at the beginning! Keep at it and you'll eventually get there!

I've had TomPlay for about 3 months now. It's been great for all the cheesy sax songs you can imagine! all the classic "must haves", Pink Panther, Baker Street, Careless Whisper, Take 5 etc.. You need to know the basics of reading sheet music though! I'm a beginner sax player. It's expensive (TomPlay) but has given me vast amounts of inspiration and laughs (as i butcher songs like "Urgent"- Foreigner ) A lot of the titles have different skill levels, the playback/accompaniment is some of the better sounding play-along's I've heard. I wish it did have a scales section.

I have played Bamboo flute (from India) for almost 45 years, and I still don't remember which note is which. I have always used the same technique that you explaned in this video, intuitively. I was good at singing the songs, so I could always hear the notes in my head, and synchronized my ears and fingers found their way over the holes. It may be true that I would miss some of the embellishment notes, but well,, that was a small price to pay for the enjoyment I was getting . Thanks for sharing your thoughts and technique. It still is a huge help. My ambition is to one day play "Lonely shepherd" by Zemphir, and may be theme from Titanic.

Great stuff Jay, I'm still a beginner, I like to learn the hook of 'classic' saxophone songs, murder them in front of my friends, have a few laughs, and then go back to long tones and scales. If i jam with my friends, we pick a key and i will noodle around a scale, usually blues... it's not fit for human consumption, but I'm getting there.. Couldn't do it without you Jay.

We have a low C# and Bb in the music and I'm tending to not be able to play with correct note length and sometimes pitch. Bari needs a lot of air and a relaxed embouchure. You likely need to work on taking larger breaths, pushing more air through the horn and a looser embouchure. Maybe take more mouthpiece in your mouth too.

Hello Jay, thanks for the lessons, I am a beginner and I am already noticing my progress thanks to you! I have watched and practised the pentatonic scale as you showed in the PSBE Lesson 1 with my alto sax, with "G A B D E G". I am an absolute beginner to music in general.... When you say "we're going to do this with concert F, major D for alto sax" what does it mean? Should I replace the G (1,2,3) with the D(1,2,3. 1,2,3)??? My pentatonic scale does not sound like yours. I would love to learn Hallelujah, and it would've helped if you indicated the letters when you're playing.
