Thank you, Jay. I’m a self taught bassist with 50+ years and still learning. I picked up keyboard for composing and arranging my own songs and later went to guitar. I’ve always felt drawn to sax and asked players which one was easier to start with. A young lady who happens to play sax in our music ministry heard about my interest in sax. One Sunday she gave me her student alto…a Bundy II. Well you don’t have to guess what my resolution for 2024 is…😉

I love my TomPlay app! Started playing sax before sheet on-line music was ubiquitous, so learned by ear, but luckily learned to read music in junior high…
@warpo0072 жыл бұрын
I've had TomPlay for about 3 months now. It's been great for all the cheesy sax songs you can imagine! all the classic "must haves", Pink Panther, Baker Street, Careless Whisper, Take 5 etc.. You need to know the basics of reading sheet music though! I'm a beginner sax player. It's expensive (TomPlay) but has given me vast amounts of inspiration and laughs (as i butcher songs like "Urgent"- Foreigner ) A lot of the titles have different skill levels, the playback/accompaniment is some of the better sounding play-along's I've heard. I wish it did have a scales section.

I have played Bamboo flute (from India) for almost 45 years, and I still don't remember which note is which. I have always used the same technique that you explaned in this video, intuitively. I was good at singing the songs, so I could always hear the notes in my head, and synchronized my ears and fingers found their way over the holes. It may be true that I would miss some of the embellishment notes, but well,, that was a small price to pay for the enjoyment I was getting . Thanks for sharing your thoughts and technique. It still is a huge help. My ambition is to one day play "Lonely shepherd" by Zemphir, and may be theme from Titanic.

Bari needs a lot of air and a relaxed embouchure. You likely need to work on taking larger breaths, pushing more air through the horn and a looser embouchure. Maybe take more mouthpiece in your mouth too.
