I have a variety of sharpeners. If the Wicked Edge 40 was available at the time, it would have been the best bet for the money. My KME is very nice but you still have to flip the blade to get to the other side, the WE does not need to do that. I also found I don't need finer stones. 600 is good enough.

Would this WE sharpener work well on curved blades?

Yes I have successfully sharpened the tribal K karambit, a Fox 599, and a recurve blade too

The stone is not harder than the steel, the abrasive component are what is harder than the steel in order to be able to cut the steel. Sharpness is nothing more than thinness, a knife is sharp because the tip of the apex is 5-10 micron. The thinner the tip of the apex is the sharper it is. The lower the angle the finer the tip of the apex is, thinner equals sharper. An ideal sharpening with to create the thinnest apex possible for said steel and said task at hand.

Instead of going the fixed route, get you was quality bench stones and learn to free hand. Fixed angles so good edges but they are slow compared to free hand and my free hand edges are better than the best fixed angle edges.
