A lot of folks take more pride in seeing what they can get out of the system than taking pride in themselves and learning how to take care of their family. In the end don’t let the government raise and take care of your family that’s your job

I think Paul is still looking for his coveralls.😂I’m only joking with you. You’re 100% right in the message. Millions of people simply aren’t gonna be prepared when the lights go out… I’m not as prepared as some. But more prepared than others. That’s my philosophy….

You and I think a lot alike. I'm big on taking care of myself in a pinch. I'll be retireing this year and can finally do things I want to do. Being paid off and rural is a good place to be. If the SHTF country people will be a whole lot better off than folks in the city or suburbs when you can jump from one roof to the other. Great points of view brother!

Whew boy! You had a lot to say today and I can appreciate your thoughtful comments. You are right in your thinking here. People do in fact need to be capable of taking care of themselves and their families when things turn hard. In a way self-reliance is a prideful mindset. You’ve gotta have pride in yourself in order to take the initiative to do things for yourself. Just keep doing things the way that you like to do them. Goos hunting to y’all.

Hey Justin! Having the knowledge, tools & ability is crucial for independence. The most important of that trinity is KNOWLEDGE. I am reminded of the Hiker's Prayer... "Lord, help me know more so that I may carry less. Amen!". Ha, ha, ha, ha, ha! But,,, those are Words Of Wisdom to live by! I have found in Life, that it is good to have OPTIONS when situations arise. As Dad used to say, "Everyone makes mistakes. Learn from them. Improvise, adapt, and overcome. Move on and make new mistakes. Learn from them as well and keep moving forward!".

My dad used to say, "Can't never could." I learned early on to do all I could do within my power to do or fix whatever I needed done before I ever called for help. Now folks just call me hard-headed when I insist on doing for myself.

Sound advice Justin especially the part about the government. If they can give it to you, then they can take it away. I can remember my Papa taking a draw knife and a stick of hickory or oak and shave a handle on it and leave the top part round to use as a maul to drive wedges.. Stay warm and keep yer powder dry.

We in a mess no matter what comes about in DC. Either one side or another is gonna be angry. I find working toward self-sufficiency keeps my mind and hands busy. Growing more this season than last, and learning wild forage is very satisfying. Not as easy as one might think. But my skills improve all the time.

That store bought handle wouldn't have happened to come from Frank Tanks, would it? They some of the only places around that you can buy a handle. But it seems like it's just a coin toss if any of the factories where they make them handles orient the grain in line with the cutting edge, on an angle, or even straight across. The cheap buster I own basically has a flat board for a handle with the corners rounded off and the grain lookin at the end of the handle is horizontal with the cutting edge.... It's a good thing wood glue is strong. If I had a fireplace to feed, that thing wouldn't have lasted a year.......You've probably got some of the best wood scrapers in the world in your pottery shop. Them pottery shards work really good at fine scraping. Hard, sharp, and when they get dull, just chunk 'em and pick up a new one. No sharpening required. My papaw had his draw knife swiped and he wouldn't buy sandpaper, so a hatchet, an Old Timer and a bunch of broke Coke bottles turned out some slick tool handles.

Great words of wisdom today. Now back to the Black powder problems, Flintlock buy the Best flints made. Order from Track of the Wolf. They sell Tom Fuller ,English Black flints. He is the premiere flint knapper in the world. Tell them your gun and they will send you the proper size. Then learn how to knap the edges back Sharp yourself.
