Very clear advice Perfect for both long term kiters and beginners alike. Side not: I had the chance to see you teaching at Pinnaroo on my last trip to Australia. Very useful info guys. Good knowledge well relayed. I also instruct and have 25 years experience, from kite buggying and kitesurf and often talk about line issue you have detailed here. I go through the same details as you have talked about. Particulate ingress into the line, salt and sand will also cause shrinkage, these particles won't wash out either. Also, another front line stretch issue is your best side for jumping, downturns and kite loops will stretch a front line and cause steering issues and drift. The initial issue of the issue is the lines are pre-stretched at manufacture and eventually the line will start to relax and shorten. Line shrinkage has been an issue on kite pully bridle lines too. You may have noticed some kite have very pulled in wingtips, mostly noticeable on North Dice, I was losing about 75mm per side of the bridle. Love and understand your lines, after all its the most critical part of your kite system.

I've found giving the short lines a long soak in warm fresh water 15mins + physical stretch works nicely. They will shorten again in time as you stressed.

I don't understand how shrinking back lines can cause excessive tension in the safety line. Safety line tension seems to only be a function of the length of your "load line," i.e. the one that runs alongside the safety line from your splitter to your chicken loop. In fact, you resolved your safety line tension at 12:54 by shortening that load line. So how does back line length factor into it?
