Jesus christ, I've known nunchuks very well for at least 16 years and as a tkd black belt with mastery of various weapons I've never seen someone explain this as clear as you. Respect sir. You're a true sensei.

“And you only do it once right?” Lol… started when I was 14… 62 now 🤪, but I remember with great clarity the first time I whacked my elbow. I still have my first pair… they are so versatile. You can reach out and touch someone ten feet away with just a couple steps or choke them out or do a wrist lock real close. My favorite hand weapon. Thanks for sharing your knowledge

I'm 37 years old and I started with foam nunchakus. I understand what the teacher is saying, but guys, don't be a dumb macho man. Start with foam, you aren't impressing anybody starting with wood or metal and you can learn just as well. Yes, no pain no gain, but that doesn't mean you need to gravely injure yourself to prove a point to nobody. Whacked myself in the head over and over learning how to move wit the nunchakus and how to manipulate them. I'd have gravely injured myself if I used wood or metal. ANd as I've practiced I've done it less and less and less. Don't be a macho man, start foam, learn the basics, then switch it up. You will get better as you get experience and practice, not because you knocked your teeth out. Aside form this tidbit, these are great instructional videos

I agree with you to some extent. I think as a true martial artist, he is implying that pain will help you remember not to perform the same mistake again. I suggest going only 30% power or less when first starting out with wood or metal.

I noticed your nunchaku has only 3 chains. Did you modify it to fit your style or was it originally like that? The wooden one I'm practicing with has 7 and I feel that is too long, which can cause injury because of the elongated path of strike.

It’s a speed or demo Chuck. Made years ago by Century for XMA which was an acrobatic style of American Karate. Kind of the precursor to “tricking” martial arts. Mike Chat started xma

I have a question that hopefully someone can answer... I am a very short woman. With fairly short arms because I'm only 5'4. Unfortunately, (depending on how you look at it) I have triple D size breasts. I keep whacking myself in the nipple with the chucks. My arms are as far out as they can go.... Are there shorter chucks for this problem? 😅
