I bought the 61-327 and after watching this video I wish I had bought the 61-337. Really like that idea of having the amp and capacitance measuring ability for just a little more cost. Thanks for putting these videos together and providing such clear explanations.

Hello yes it is a nice multimeter but I would tell you the Non Contact Voltage sensing is somewhat limited . Other than that a great DMM Ron

Thanks for the video. i work at Lowe's and we have a bunch of Ideal stuff on clearance so I picked up the multimeter and the same NCV tool you show in the video. Have both tools already in the Harbor Freight brands but for the clearance price of Ideal it was worth upgrading although im a homeowner DIY guy it's nice to have quality tools. $8 for the multilmeter and $3 for the NCV tool is a no brainer. Since we recently have Klein tools now since Home Depot goofed that up, Lowe's is making room for them so as employees we get hooked up on additional discounts on items that are already clearanced out so the store can get rid of them. I've even seen some of our house brand Kobalt pliers wire stripper etc clearanced out to make way for Klein tools so for me that's the time to buy.

Can this meter be used to test AA batteries? Not just a voltage reading, but with a little load? Great video. Much better than the tiny manual included.

Hello this tester will not put a small load on the battery but the 61-327 meter will and has a setting for testing batteries hope that bhelps Ron

This is a great video, I have watched the video for the 337 and 346. These are the most comprehensive videos I have watched on electrical meters. I have a 312, bought the 337 (after watching this) and I’m more than likely going to get the 347 (still don’t know the difference between the two). I have a few benches and want to get them all test ready. By the way, is there a part number for that Ideal PCB? I think it will make a great training tool. Thank you very much.

Great and helpful information is a short time. Question. I'm using this same multimeter on an Victron Lynx distributor, across the pos and neg, with everything turned off, I think.... My meter HV led glows red, and the display tells me OL OL tell me there is not voltage, but the HV led tells me there is 30 or more volts. I selected dc volts, and same thing. I don't know if I can work on it. 😬

@@RonKipperDatacomm1 Hi Ron. Thanks for getting back to me. If you work with solar, you'll know about Victron products. Our Cirrus camper uses them and people use them in the RVs. Anyhow, this is weird, where my Ideal VOM is telling me OL, which I learned in this case is telling me Over Load, not Open Lead, but another VOM is telling me 13 volts. I thought the red led was only supposed to warn in High Voltage, 30+ volts. Oh well. Going forward.

HI Allen OL is Over Limit and the unit will warn you for voltages over 30 Volts good luck Ron

@@RonKipperDatacomm1 This is true, but the voltage is 13 volts. Shouldn't it tell me when it's 13 volts? Over Limit is for anything over 30 volts.

Allan I am not sure what you are tyrying to ask me. The meter is auto ranging so if there is a voltage between 0 and 600 Volts it should give you a reading. The red LED will lite ip and the lightning bolt on the display indicates voltages over 30 V indicating you might want to use PPE when testing hope that helps Ron

And far more than I know how to do . I'm going to search KZbin for testing the specific parts I need to test . It's hot and fixing the AC on my van is top priority . Thanks

Hmmm- Testing CAPACITANCE....🛑Using the SEL button, my 61-337 doesn't cycle to uF in that that 3rd setting...it starts w/ ohms, kohms, F, V, then back to ohms... :(

When the display reads F it is reading Farads which is the correct setting for capaciators have fun Ron

It seems one has to set to AC voltage, let it zero out (or close to that) before going to DC. Otherwise, the DC reads all over the map.

John the tester is can measure down to millivolts and with the leads in the meter and you turn it to volts it is picking up stray electrical noise from sources like the wiring in the walls, lighting, TV's or any other source. Just take a measurement and that goes away nothing wrong with the tester and no real need to zero it out. Hope that helps Ron

@@RonKipperDatacomm1 Ron there are caps on the leads that go into the multimeter.....when I watched the video and tried to put them in they wouldnt go in. The video doesnt show you taking the caps on the leads that go into it so after a while I figured it out. No one has a video that you need to take the caps off the leads. You only show the caps that come off the prong ends.

I bought the 337 for auto wiring. All it does is beep fuse or lead. Changed the fuse, tried for an hr to stop the lead beep. threw it in the trash after 2 hrs of beeping.
