LEARN INDONESIAN I AKU SAYA GUE GW / YOUR NAME - BASED ON MY OWN LIFE EXPERIENCE duration 9:01 kzbin.info/www/bejne/eIeTfWuEp5Z5q6M THE SPECIFIC YOU #41 kzbin.info/www/bejne/d6uVhpqGaNmSl8k Note : Both of "aku" and "saya" are formal words for : I. But eventually, there are "slightly" different exceptions for this formal "aku" word, which are : 1. You cannot use it to call yourself when you are talking with your senior or someone who is older than you, as it's considered as impolite. You always have to use the word "saya". 2. "Aku" is used between friends (even the elderly some times call themselves as "aku" between their friends), or children (elementary school, kindergarten), or little kid (toddler, up to elementary school) to their parents or caretakers, for example, the nannies (or in Indonesia sometimes we call them as : Mbak or Suster, or in a "cute" way : Ncus) etc. 3. "Aku" is also widely used in song lyrics, poem, poet. 4. For academic, formal, and business stuff (paper, report, meeting, conference) we use "saya". "Aku" is considered as impolite, even though as a word itself it is a formal Indonesian word. 5. I have no idea when all of this happened (the "movement" of this "aku" perception stuff) as in the old movies, they use this "aku" in the way(s) we use "saya" nowadays and there's no "casual" or "impolite" perception appeared back then. But yeah, it is as it is. 6. "Aku" is also used between gf and bf, or a boy/girl to the girl/boy he/she likes, or a man/woman to the woman/man he/she likes. This "aku" word is considered as "more special/private". 7. In conclusion, both "aku" and "saya" are formal Indonesian words, but there's some "new-made-by-the community?-regulation" that makes it works in that way. :) Informal words for "aku" are : gue, guwe, gua, guwa, etc. Any word that you can find in the KBBI (Kamus besar Bahasa Indonesia - the Great Dictionary of Indonesian Language) are A FORMAL WORD. :) kbbi.web.id We have several formal words that are considered as "impolite" when you use it in formal occasions. "Mostly" are made by "similar-style-made by the community?-regulations". The word itself is still as formal one, but it's the perception. Declined vs inclined, degradation ("value-matters?"), etc. For example : jamban, babu, bibi. We "replaced" these formal words with other words/phrases. These words are still stated as formal ones, formal Indonesian words; but it's impolite to use this in some conditions and situations, well, most of the times. ;) PLAYLIST LEARN INDONESIAN / BAHASA INDONESIA VIDEOS : kzbin.info/aero/PLi5iBmBeu-3L9DrIW5B9MmLMnIRi5QWVM PLAYLIST | INDONESIAN TONGUE TWISTERS VIDEOS : kzbin.info/aero/PLi5iBmBeu-3JanChC_RiupZZLEWVo1EVG LEARN INDONESIAN #41 THE 1.0 - SPECIFIC YOU duration 29:51 kzbin.info/www/bejne/d6uVhpqGaNmSl8k / kzbin.info/www/bejne/mnbMg3eFl7unasU LEARN INDONESIAN #42 THE 2.0 SI SANG duration 26:13 kzbin.info/www/bejne/Z5PZiKifaJmSn7s LEARN INDONESIAN #43 THE 3.0 YANG - Adjective & NOUN duration 17:10 kzbin.info/www/bejne/gIfTgousi7mDe6c LEARN INDONESIAN #24 VERB 1.0 duration 7:08 kzbin.info/www/bejne/eaman4ycfNSegcU LEARN INDONESIAN #25 VERB 1.1 PREFIX me-... duration 27:19 kzbin.info/www/bejne/eWfEdZ-Pic1qrc0 LEARN INDONESIAN #26 VERB 1.2 PREFIX ber-... duration 9:56 kzbin.info/www/bejne/oGKke2Bvps10nKs LEARN INDONESIAN #27 VERB 1.3 PREFIX me-per- SUFFIX -kan-i duration 22:55 kzbin.info/www/bejne/eKa0XqyrjNlli6s LEARN INDONESIAN #28 VERB PATTERN/ FORMULA duration 22:35 kzbin.info/www/bejne/kGqYkqagf750jqs INDONESIAN PREPOSITIONS #29 - #30 NOT & NO #35 DON'T WITHOUT #36 NOT YET EVER HAVE NEVER #54 SLANG #60

Ahh, I was going to say your videos seem like lecture quality with the amount of background context and how you clearly repeat and reinforce what you're saying. Makes sense now you mention you taught at University! I really appreciate the details you go into about formal/informal use, and how they've changed over time. I find it really interesting. Oh, and in academic writing in the UK, we are also not supposed to refer to ourselves in the first person (no "I" or "me") - well, it was the case when I was at Uni... that was a long time ago, so not sure if it's still the same.

@arsia45915 жыл бұрын
Well this is only my suggestion I think if you want to say I'm very grateful, I think you don't need to say "saya adalah sangat bersyukur (very grateful means sangat bersyukur in Bahasa Indonesia)" so just say it "saya sangat bersyukur" cause it kinda weird to hear it (sorry for my bad english:"))

For me (myself, as others might think differently) "perempuan" is "more formal/more polite" than "wanita". I use "perempuan" more often than "wanita". Both words are formal and considered as polite words, but in terms of pairing with other words (mostly the negative ones, we often use "wanita" than "perempuan". For example : WIL (Wanita Idaman Lain) - mistress, WTS (Wanita Tuna Susila) - prostitute.
@IRACAROLINA20015 жыл бұрын
Anak perempuan - child female = daughter / young girl. Anak wanita (rarely used this way). Siswa perempuan - student female = female student. Siswa wanita (rarely used this way).
@niniklutvia15372 жыл бұрын
You can use either. Some people say that wanita has a bit connotation in meaning, refers to females who have negative behaviors, but overall they're synonyms, interchangeable words

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I thought "aku" is used in informal situations, for example with friends or people your age? Like I hear my relatives and family friends saying "aku" with each other and I also see it in a lot of modern songs. Also, thank you for the videos. I've been wanting to improve my Indonesian.

Which area in Indonesia are you from if you don't mind? As for me (my family), "aku" is a bit "rude", especially when you call yourself with your senior/family member that is/are older than you. My family live in Bandung (West Java Province), my Mother family is from Tasikmalaya (West Java Province) and Madiun (East Java Province). My father family is from Brebes Tegal (Central Java Province), I could not use "aku" with senior/older family member, it's considered as rude/not having manner.
@IRACAROLINA20013 жыл бұрын
In terms of siblings or cousins of similar age, some family are okay with calling yourself with "aku". Some of my friends are using "aku" too, just don't try to use it with older/senior family member.
