This is the un-official national anthem of Japan. During the WWII, it was sung together by the soldiers abroad at night before the decisive battle(commonly known as Banzai charge) in places such as Guadalcanal and Iwo-tou where they had no hope of survival. Every country has their own version of song like this that touches very deep in their heart.

That's right. Many soldiers sang this song in tears on a Kamikaze plane, thinking of their hometown. Just as young people in each country have families and loved ones, so did the Japanese soldiers. We must be peaceful.

I found German simple as well its very similar to english and spanish however Japanese language was untainted for hundreds of years and until china they had no written language so it is complex only in its roots being pressed into Chinese alphabets i think if you try watching slower japanese movies with NO subtitles you may find its just as simple you have to get emerging subconscious learning activated its the best way to learn you will find you know words wothout knowing how you learned them ... lol

Is this very old or of a certain dialect? There are bits that i dont understand. Also i really like how Japanese seem to have a deep appreciation of wistful, poignant things. Like they like to cry about beautiful, but sad things, to feel the emotion. I do this too but my American friends dont get why I purposely listen to these songs or watch movies or read books with such themes, ponder over them, and enjoy making myself cry. It's such a delicate yet strong, spiritual, thankful state that I really wish i had words for. If i could explain it better maybe theyd understand. :)

Hi, Jerry-san! I think learning from songs is a good idea. The only thing you need to know is that song lyrics (any songs) usually don't work "grammatically correct" way. I believe Utada Hikaru has a lot of beautiful nice songs, but her songs are very contemporary (which usually mean lyrics are "cool" but not necessarily "understandable". There're, of course, a lot of words you can learn from her songs! ;) I can't remember the name, but there was a lovely song...Anyway, good luck!! Kind regards,
