First of all, thank you for providing such high-quality content for free. I'll be really grateful if you could answer my query though - How many videos do we have to go through in order to be ready to give the TOPIK 2 exam? As you could see from my profile picture, I'm very much into Korean culture. However, I am also genuinely interested in learning this fascinating language and want to excel in it. Passing an official certification with flying colors will be a dream come true for me. Unlike other KZbinrs who focus simply on building vocabulary or teaching phrases (no disrespect to them though, they're doing amazingly well too!), I liked the fact that you're teaching from a grammar perspective while showing us the necessary vocabulary as well. Looking forward to your videos.

As an English speaker, what I notice with English speakers is that they tend to aspirate T, P, K, Ch since that's the norm in English. What's not normal is unaspirated T, P, K, and Ch, which occurs in many languages, like romance languages, Japanese, and many Asian language families. In English, unaspirated versions of T, P, K, and Ch do occur in unstressed syllables, like Alton, aspen, seeker, and orchard, where the consonants are unstressed and unaspirated in the second syllable. This isn't always the case, but this helps English speakers become more aware of the aspirated and unaspirated consonants in English, which helps them hear them better in other languages where this distinction is important. I grew up with a nonaspirate language Cebuano, so the nuances between aspirated and unaspirated are very obvious to me. From my experience in torturing Japanese, English speakers have a much more difficult time with the nuances between G and K, and Korean is even more difficult with the added nuance between K and Kh (aspirated), and strong G (middle G) and soft G (tense G). The nuance between hard G and soft G was also difficult for me at first. Before Korean, I learned Thai phonetics, where they make a distinction between strong and soft B and D, but not with G or J, so that took some practice to hear and pronounce correctly. The more you pay attention to it, the better your ears will get at hearing it, which will help you in pronouncing it correctly, cause it's impossible to pronounce a nuanced sound correctly that you don't hear. Very informative and helpful video. I wanted more clarity on the tensed sounds, and this video was the most clear on the distinction in pronunciation that I've come across. 🧋🙏💖
