My grandparents and my parents are from Maurutius, but my parents settled in Bengaluru, India before I was born. My parents continued speaking Creole to us, but are no more. However, my siblings and I continue to speak Creole, when we meet or over the phone. I do remember quite a few words,. Your video is very helpful, as I am planning to travel to Mauritius in the next 2 months. Its something am looking forward too.

Yes that's true. Actually Mauritian Creole is derived a bit from french. ( For the terms that we do not find in creole, years ago, we used the french words- and it later metamorphosed to the creole accent ) : D We had French Colonies living in Mauritius very long ago. How would you says things like... "I like you" "I love you" "I hate you" And stuff like these.. thank you so much for this..
@xolang4 жыл бұрын
Great job! Mersi bien! how about you give an overview of the pronouns, including sample sentences. it could look like: I = mo you (singular) = to you (singular polite) = u she/he = li we = nu you (plural) = zot you (plural polite) = u zot (?) they = bann la each with a sample sentence, for example: I I like the song you (singular) you have a beautiful voice etc. I don't know if the pronouns also change as an object? like how in English "I" becomes "me", "we" becomes "us", "they" becomes "them"? Thus: "I/we/they like the teacher" but "the teacher doesn't like me/us/them". Then the pronouns after prepositions (for, with, against, because of, etc.). In English it's the same as the object pronouns. Thus instead of "for I/we/they”, you say "for me/us/them". Finally there's the possessive pronouns. In English those would be: my .. your° .. her/his .. our .. their .. Oh, and how do you say the possessive pronouns without a following noun? In English these would be: mine yours° hers/his ours theirs °in Mauritian, "your(s)" might have up to 4 different forms, depending on whether it's singular or plural, and whether it's polite. Thank you very much! 💙

Hi Anshika, Yes actually, creole is more of a SPOKE language than a WRITTEN one. It's only recently that the language was made official and dictionaries were established to standardise the orthograph. . . still i find that there are multiple dictionaries out there with different orthographs for the same words... quite confusing for those taking up the language as an official subject at school .
